Hey guys, I’m having a few issues with my 2005 Tacoma 4cyl. It’s got 147,000 miles on it. First, there is a ticking noise from the engine that only occurs when it’s really cold out or when I run it cold. I was thinking valve adjustment, but wouldn’t it always make the noise no matter the temperature? Next, I’m losing a bunch of coolant somewhere. No leaks anywhere that I can see and it’s not in my oil. I’ll run through a full thing of coolant in a matter of hours(if I drive the entire time) and sometimes I won’t lose any. Could these first 2 problems be related? Third, my front end is making a rhythmic rubbing noise. Maybe a warped rotor? Finally, my 4wd is making a nasty grinding noise. I looked up videos for a bad transfer case, but the grinding does not sound the same. Any help would be great. Thanks!

P.S. I do take care of my truck, but all of these issues have occurred around the same time. It doesn’t help that I’m a college student and can’t afford for somebody else to look at it

Hydraulic lifters on 2tr fe, no valve adjustments required. Watch weep hole in water pump for coolant. Rhythmic noise could be front wheel bearing. The 4wd grinding noise....?? I dunno about that

Warped rotor and grinding noise arm one in the same
If there is a manifold water hose leaking then the loss of coolant would make sense.
it drips onto the top of the motor and evaporates before ant visible sign of coolant.
could also be a heater core hose > they do this all the time

@Skyway your talking about the control arm for the grind noise? If it was a control arm, wouldn’t it make the noise in 2wd and more when I steer? @Bell214b ill check out the weep hole. Tbh I didn’t even know what that was until you said something. If it is leaking from the weep hole that means I most likely need a new water pump?

@Bell214b how come the ticking only happens when it’s cold if it’s the lifters? Also, I shouldn’t say a “rubbing” noise for the front right end. It sounds more like a bearing, but I just thought it wouldn’t be rhythmic if it was a bearing. Also, I thought I would be able to feel the bad bearing while driving which I dont
