Hopefully I’m posting this in the right place.
I have a 2006 Tacoma 4x4 6speed standard transmission. I was at the top of a valley here in Hawaii that has a very steep, usually wet, and fairly dangerous access road. I put my truck in 4 high, which engaged as it should, but when I switched it over to 4Low all I got was a beeping sound and my 4Low light was flashing. I drove back and forth and turned both ways to try to get it to engage yet nothing worked.
I had used my 4Low a month or so prior to this incident and it worked perfectly fine. Has anyone here had this issue? Would it have something to do with my 4wd actuator? Any diagnostic tests I can run? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Did you put the transmission in neutral when you shifted from 4hi to 4lo at a dead stop?

You have to push the clutch all the way down to the floor with a 6 speed or it wont engage

This. Come to a stop. PUT THAT CLUTCH TO THE FLOOR. then switch to 4 low. Clutch still in let up off the brakes to roll a bit and ill be it flips right in. (fyi you have to be under 3mph for it to switch to 4lo)

When I had this problem it was because the sensor behind the clutch pedal that tell the computer the clutch pedal is pressed to the floor, just needed to be adjusted. Big island Tacoma here just saying.

Yeah it is Waipio. I was just thinking that Maybe it is due to the fact that I had my master clutch cylinder replaced and since that I have to use the clutch cancel start in order to start my truck. Maybe since the pedal isn’t going all the way to where it needs to be in order to engage the button at the bottom of the pedal movement is the reason why. I might try to adjust it so that it works properly.

It’s almost garrens the button. I struggled with this problem for a couple years. Pressing the clutch super hard like 20 times before it’s finally go in 4 LO. Adjusted the button. No problems since.

the other possibility is the air line on the transfer case is degraded and cracked. But I think it’s that button. Your bigger problem is wapio road and the damn tourist lol good luck

Also, I was in the habit of starting my truck with the clutch start cancel button, exactly the same. It’s the sensor behind the clutch pedal.
