What did people use for gasket materiel? I cannot find Threebond, every shop sells permatex. I got the Form In Place gasket number 2, but I noticed it stays pliable/doesn't harden. Trying to figure out if that will be appropriate for this application.

    Sorry to resurrect this thread

I just used the FIP gasket that the Toyota parts guy sold me. Figured it's the same stuff I'm scraping off.

I put mine in about a month ago (along with a Redline gear oil change).
Was disappointed at first, but it is either breaking in or I am getting used to how the transmission feels in this truck.

Still clunky but it feels better, shifts smoother etc.

Get the TRD shift knob along with the quick shifter. It does help a lot, especially with reverse. I was skeptical at first but it does make a difference.
And I think it looks pretty cool.

Now, about the throw out bearing, the wobbly clutch pedal and the chattering clutch… :(

That's really good advice on the shifter knob. It sits a few cm higher than the original leather one, and you really get a lot more leverage out of the larger knob. I went with TRD just because it has the 6-speed pattern (for the benefit of non-yota service techs, tires, etc. when I need service) but other folks use anything from demon heads, sexually-explicit knobs, demon heads being sexually explicit with knobs, cue-balls, and etc.

Also, the short shifter has also loosened up for me substantially since I put it in back in Dec '13. Not sure if it's more to do with the trans or the shifter (linkage?) itself, but it is definitely smoother.

i installed mine today with the TRD knob (I wanted a weighted one to maximize the difference). All in all it took 30 minutes, I used Permatex Ultra Gray as it was listed as an alternative to the Toyota part number. Sitting in the truck in the driveway I went through the gears, it was very notchy and i was a unsure of my decision. I took it for a drive and that cleared everything up, it is positive and short, a very nice change and I am sure my dog will appreciate the much shorter shifts.

I have had mine for 30000 km. It's great but I had to add an extender from eBay. Was only 12 bux but worth every penny

I just did the TRD Quickshift install today. Took me 45 minutes. I also installed the TRD shifter knob. I managed to get both the shifter and knob for $355 shipping and taxes included from the Toyota.com parts website. (The retail on the parts are $349 and $52) Shop around for different dealers and you’ll be shocked at the price differences. Turns out a dealer in my state was the cheapest. I received it the day after it shipped.

Throws are super short and sweet now. It’s a tad clunky which I feel will break in over time. I absolutely love the feel of the TRD knob. Gave my son a chuckle when he saw it. The Amsoil 75w-90 GL4 that I used to drain and refill last week will get a new part to play with.

Install video here (please enjoy when I try to remove the stick shift. I removed the red rag for those that caught that camera blunder): https://youtu.be/H8WketEbDKw

If the new shifter doesn’t smooth out at all, it would still be worth it. I’ll post an update in a few months, but this is a great “mod” for $350.

@RedTaco68 I have installed the URD quick shifter into my 3rd gen. the procedure was much the same as yours, I can tell you with 8000+ miles, it is much smoother to operate, another thing I can recommend is the ADM acumelator delete modification. Your life with this transmission will be much improved.
    Good Luck

With a helper, mostly to Pump the clutch pedal once the mod is made to bleed the air out of the line. 30-45min.
