Have you considered a Suzuki DR-650? Enough power to ride on the highway, yet still agile enough for light trail riding. I prefer them over the Kawasaki KLR650, which is a bulletproof platform, but is a little on the bulky side... A gently used DR650 can be had for $3k-$4k.

I know mine is on the wr450. I think they made it to more center the balance of weight front to back on the bike.

as i get older i seem to be a stickler for safety myself lol

however the irony in it all is totally fucked up lol

i recently moved into a new home and there is a local kid with a bastardized subaru bugeye that always goes WOT just a few yards after passing my driveway down a twisty section, its like looking back through a time warp hole for me, but damn bastard is gonna kill someone lol

    minor tweaks
Long seat going up onto the tank allows the rider to slide way forward during cornering in the dirt. Esp helpful if your riding aggressively in loose conditions

i think manufactures have been playing with gas tank to improve center of gravity

it started with the european brands like bmw ktm, and now with the japanese brands alike

The F700 and F800 had the gas tank under the seat, I love it. I've always assumed engine packaging and lower COG. Weirdly though, they went back to a conventional tank on the F750/F850.

Yeah, I've been looking into them. I don't have any experience with carbs but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to learn, several KLR650 bikes recently popped up near me. Ugh, decisions, decisions. I may just have to flip a coin cause I can't decide.

there are some really great reviews on youtube comparing the dr650/klr650/xr650l
i would suggest checking some out, all 3 are great machines and can be had at great value on the used market
all with their slight pros and cons respectively

I need a Wr450f supermoto in my life. I was looking into them more last night and can’t get over how good the new ones look.

I think it’s at the top of the list. 701 would be sweet but the 450 would be more fun.
