I was clear before making the appointment. I have bolt on rock sliders (Mob town offroad). Do you need to take them off or not? Tech said no. Now they have it on the lift and apparently are not sure what to do. How do they handle replacing truck frames if they can't figure out a set of bolt on sliders? Im not getting warm fuzzies.

Is there another local dealer you can take your truck to? Not getting warm fuzzies is an understatement...

Those are mythical aftermarket bolts, might as well be a Dragon under there.

Maybe they are worried about liability removing them since they are aftermarket.

I do the frame sprays. I'm not sure how the Mobtown sliders bolt on, but theres a chance they are blocking some of the holes that need plugs. Or the bolts may be in the way of the spray wand or cleaning brush. And we DO NOT get paid extra for aftermarket parts needing to be removed to do the job.

Oh they know how, but service manager said "not for free"
They count minutes, not hours, none go unbilled

Just got a call literally 10 minutes after the post. They realized they did not need to take them off. Just a bracket. Prob is my buddy that had a lift moved and these are not fun to do on the ground alone with back problems. So crises averted. The aftermarket wins!

This is all well and good, but the OP mentioned that he made it clear that he had the sliders installed prior to arriving.

There are so many different types of side rails/ sliders. That without knowing which one is installed. It would be impossible for the dealer to say 100% it will be no problem. And if this is the first one that the tech doing the sprays has come across, it would take some time to figure out what can stay and what needs to go to make room for the spray wands. One of the wands is 3 feet long. And there is limited space to move it around. So anything aftermarket would make the job harder. Toyota designed the spray wands and sequence of sprays around a STOCK truck.

So I guess take this as a warning when you get in there with your taco. They may or may not have issues turning a bolt at first.

How long does it take to uninstall them? Serious question.

I've heard from quite a few people that anything after market tends to freak the dealerships out for no reason at all.

For example, if you have skid plates, even if they have an easy to remove access port so that the dealership can do their "free" Toyota care oil changes, you'll still get techs who freak out and say they have to bill you for 2 hours so they can take all the skids back off.

Buddy of mine bulled past the service writer into the bay pulled out a 5 mm wrench and took all of 4 seconds to undo the little bitty access plate on his skids. Had to show the tech how to do it. He was not impressed.

I wish it was that simple. Customers are told to bring their cars in as close to Empty as possible for the fuel pump recalls. And we see 5-8 a week that were filled up prior to coming in for their appointment.

Dealership wanted to charge me an hour of labor ($125) to remove my skids before one of the free oil changes. I went to another dealer and they had no problem. Its 4 bolts....

Can't discount the brilliance of some customers

Brought mine in for the fuel pump recall. Tech left a note on the paperwork regarding how little fuel I left in there lol. "9 miles remaining" on the HUD.
