Speakers and stereo

Hey guys im planning to install an aftermarket stereo and speakers in my taco. I have never done this before Is it difficult?

 

Not all that difficult about 3 beer time to remove and replace. Just start removing screws and pull panels.

 

Do i need a stereo clipper kit?

 

Are you putting in a single or double DIN stereo to replace your stock one?

I'd suggest you visit the Crutchfield website. Watch a few vids. Get a working knowledge before you dive into it.

The task is pretty intuitive, but there are several pitfalls.

 

I recommend a cheap set of plastic panel removal tools so you don't fuck up your trim. For example:

Thanks guys! I bought a stereo tool set and im ready to try it out. Best buy was charging me 100 bucks for just atereo installation smh

 

Before you take apart the dash, just go ahead and solder/crimp the universal harness to your aftermarket radio harness.

After you do that, you're ready for install.

Should take you no more than 5-10 minutes as there are only a handful of screws and everything else just pops off.

 

If you buy through Crutchfield (I suggest you should, they rock) you can spend an extra $20 and they completely crimp/assemble the harness for you so it is legit plug and play. Just pop the dash out, swap the radio bracket, plug in, re-assemble, done.

They’ll even send you disassembly instructions as well for your truck. They are excellent for 1st timers

 

This is good advice. They're really good about support, both before and after the sale. If you live near the east coast, the shipping is quite fast too.

 

Oh i love their stereo selection! And extra 20 is not bad at all. Ill buy it from them! So when i do buy it is there like a selection fee for crimp assembly? Should i return my crimp tool kit?

It comes down to your skill set .

I have coworkers that repair High End Welders and can rebuild $5000.00 boards .

That would most likely burn the vehicle down trying to change a radio or give up in frustration unable to get the HVAC panel off.

Do you have a friend that works at bestbuy? their install kits are expensive but with the employee discount they come out to less than $15 most of the time. Also car audio there has crazy markup, don't buy from there unless its through an employee. Bose audio products are discounted almost 50% to employees, kicker/pioneer/alpine/jbl/etc all have 20-40% discount too.

the discount also applies to geek squad services (the actual install) too

 

No i dont i wish i did though would be a good hookup. By the way are speakers easier to install as well? Thinking about replacing the factory ones

 

i had to custom make a bracket for my aftermarket speakers, but i might have bought the wrong size speakers? there arent any conclusive answers on here about what size speakers, and after i did it, i still dont know what size is good for the front doors! if you get the right size its crimp and screw em in
