Customer wanted to extend these slots and take an inch out of the middle. If it works there’s 59 more.

Cool stuff guys. Here's an example of the parts I was making all of the little hose barbs for a couple days ago.

It’s 1/2” X 2” 6063, soft enough to bend without stress cracking. We’re bending it with a 2-1/2” radius, so it works out well.

Is that cast plate? 5000 series? Or possibly MIC6?

We cut a lot of that on our laser in 1/4” thickness, it’s very brittle. The neat thing that I never knew about cutting it on a laser is that it is much more heat stable and allows a lot smaller holes to be cut in it than 5052 or 6061.
We would normally limit out at a .220” diameter hole but with that stuff we can cut down to a .100” hole in 1/4”.

Lol no but thats a frequent question. My disappointing answer is that this particular glass would make very fragile, expensive bongs. There are much cheaper materials that allow you to make a much thicker walled part that would be significantly sturdier. I actually have virtually no skills with those other materials, which is also a disappointing fact to most people lol.

Edit: through some work networking with other glass workers i have met some very successful pipe makers and they are very cool guys.

Anybody ever seen one of these? Notice the “rule” beside zippo in the first picture?

Just got done reading through most this thread, some cool stuff going on. I think I'll be hanging out in here now.

I'm a fabricator/ machinist/ bit of everything and know nothing about anything.

If anyone needs me to reference anything from these books on modern drawing practices, I can help!
The one on the left is copyrighted 1953 and the one on the left 1948 (with an original copyrighted date of 1919!)
I got them from my high school drafting class teacher along with an old school full size drafting table with parallel arm. I was the last class to graduate from my high school and the building was being demolished for a new school, so they were getting rid of everything old. (I wish I still had that table)
That’s where I developed my love of drafting which turned to CAD. (Class of 2002)

Here’s a closer pic of the vise stop. It’s made by pro stop. Lots of adjustments and multiple ways to set it up.
