Everything I see implies the shift knob unscrews from the rod it is mounted on. I need to do this so I can get the console out of my way. The amount of force and grip needed to screw it off is beyond me. Am I right to pursue this? I have tried putting a padded wrench on the lower "washer" that the shift boot is attached to with no luck. I could apply more force than I am using, but it seems that will just rip the boot. Thanks

Push/pull the boot down, place hand on shifter knob and unscrew. Mine needed a little elbow grease but it came off

This is what it looks like detached. As previously mentioned, push down on the chrome pc to unclip ... then unscrew the knob.
