I tried it last year, grilled it. I’ll leave that part in the woods next time!

It is flavorful, but it is still muscle and can be really tender if you grill it quickly. Fresh herbs, lime juice, onions were a good combo. Probably don't want to introduce it as "gateway" venison to those who aren't used to eating offal. I'd suggest checking out The Whole Beast: Nose to Tail Eating by Fergus Henderson for more ideas. The world eats more than just chops and steaks and here in the US many folks have no idea what they're missing out on.

I’ve had it sliced thin and fried in butter. Pretty good. Better if you clean it up real nice, stuff with sausage and bread stuffing and wrap in tinfoil. Chuck it into the coals of campfire before bed and slice thin the next morning on toast.

    Arrrrgh!
All I get to do now is sit back and watch.
    Torture!!!

Got a doe with my truck on the way back from fishing :annoyed:
    Stoopid doe.
Flipped her off into a canyon. Went back, too much traffic. Whacked her in the hindquarters with the passenger side of the pushbar and she went flying.
Im going to make a paper airplane out of my unfilled 2nd tag and go back there tomorrow and throw it off the canyon where she is.

    Send it to me!
    Liver too.

I tried it last year and it was good but I overlooked I so be careful on that. I didn’t get much meat off the one I cooked because they have some stringy stuff I cut all out and I clipped it with a bullet.9CF89BE5-3044-4959-96FA-7CDC531F90E3.jpg

If you prepare it right it is great, I marinate it for a day in garlic and salt pepper and lemon juice and olive oil, and trim it out removing the valves and slice thin, it is our favorite part after a kill to have heart taco also

Heart, and bacon w/ potatoes and egg. The next morning. I shot this one right through its heart, but with these copper mono metal bullets the damage was minimal, aside from the hole. This was my first heart, and I will never leave one behind, ranks up there with tenderloins in my opinion.

I have eaten deer heart for many years. If done correctly it's very good. Gave my doe heart to my Dad last Saturday. Was a perfect heart due to lung shot. Didn't need to ask twice if he wanted it. That's how we do things. If I kill, I give him a side of the loin and sometimes the heart, because he helps me skin and cut up meat. Dad does the same for me if he kills and I help him. Well if we both kill on the same day it's just icing on the cake!

I remember years that I have needed to take off layers because it was nearly 70° and years that I had 3” of snow drop between me sitting and my mid morning poop.

No clue what weather we will have in Northern Michigan until the week of. One of these years I will build a lodge like some y’all have.
