To you as well! I think I found a good spot and I’m hoping with the wind picked up I’ll be able to slip up closer to bedding to set up easier. We will soon see I guess.

Some pictures from the area where I hunted this year. The buck hanging is my wife’s from the last Saturday of A zone. The head is my buck. Which I tragically lost. There were two bucks, surprised me while glassing. They came up a deer trail I didn’t realize was there, at 52 yards 32° downhill. Shot the bigger of the two. Felt perfect, but the way he ran off he looked like I hadn’t hit him. No second shot opportunity. No blood trail, no fur, he followed the first buck sidehilling uphill. Followed tracks into this white thorn hell hole. No sign, was thinking I shot over him cause the short distance, and how steep it was, deer don’t tend to continue uphill after you’ve shot them. Spent the next three days all through the area. Ended up glassing this group of crows messing with something on the ground, down between these two giant downed trees. Instantly knew it had to be my buck, packed up my shit and headed over there. He was half eaten by this little cinnamon colored black bear I’d seen around the last two days in a row. Rotting, nothing to be salvaged, worst feeling ever, but I feel I put in the best effort I could to find him, I put my tag on him, and that’s really all you can do. It’s part of hunting. Which sucks, but it is what it is. I think the no blood has something to do with the lack of expansion due to the high velocity at that close of a distance with the solid copper. The entrance was high enough I missed the closer lung, and got the further one, because of the steep angle.

After the cold snap we had last weekend it kicked the younger bucks into gear. Had to go to Wyoming for work today and saw the biggest buck I’ve ever seen in person. I should start applying since it’s only a 2 hour drive... saw tons of deer today. Active during the day time too. Gives me hope for my Muley spot this weekend. Going to sit tomorrow night with my wife and daughter for a whitetail doe tag I want to fill. Wife wants to come along cause every once in a while a decent buck shows up and she might shoot one.
