I have the chrome grill surround on my black 2013, and although it doesn't look terrible, I think the color matched look is much better. I was considering ordering a replacement (OEM or aftermarket), but I wanted to know how difficult it would be to paint it myself. I've always heard chrome was difficult to paint, but i'm sure it's probably all in the preparation. For those of you who painted yours, did it go ok for you, or do you regret it and suggest ordering one? Thanks!

A color matched OEM grill surround won’t be cheap. If you paint yours it’s going to look like it has measles from road debris in short order. Got mine at Royal South Toyota for $227.1DD45774-99B9-4894-AF25-5CC82B45C826.jpg

i have tried color matching mine barcelona red twice. first time i sanded then primed, painted, cleared and went through wet anding buffing polish etc. it lasted one summer. winter caused it to flake off. the next summer i actually sand blasted it so there was no chrome at all. used adhesion promoter then the above steps again. one winter, flaked away again. royal PITA imm now looking at just buying a painted one

After extensive research and asking others with my.options being to paint it or vinyl wrap it or plastidip which was last option I ended up buying a oem white one. I believe it was about 220.

    Worth every penny.

Now if I can only replace the chrome rear bumper ill.be chromeless

I just purchased the one in the link I put up. I know it's not going to be OEM quality, but if it will hold up for awhile, i'll be happy. Plus since it won't be chrome, it will be much easier to touch up or repaint down the road.

Check ebay or Amazon I upgraded to a 2011 grill oem already painted.to me its worth it . Im the kind a person who would not be happy if I painted it and it didn’t come out perfect. 293C3EEE-23B1-47A2-A1DB-B87CE5AE9065.jpg

Look into Bumper Shellz black plastic bumper overlays. Caliraised and others sell them. I used them.

I tried the bumper shellz I tried to make my bumper black . There very thin and you can get creases in them very easy. And there expensive in my opinion

I went with the painted black grill/surround from CarParts.com. It looks really good, although the black doesn't match up perfect, but it should be much easier to coat with DupliColor colormatch paint than the chrome would. I did however get some Bumper Shellz for the rear chrome bumper.
