Bought a 2019 Tacoma TRD Off Road. Love the truck cannot figure out the gearing. It’s an automatic and seems to be geared really high. I am running BFG 265/75 R16. At 60mph I am at 1500+- rpms. It will never go and stay in 6th gear and with the slightest wind or up hill it drops to 4th. Is that normal?

    Welcome from the mid cities.

These trucks are very shift happy. It takes a bit of learning, but once you figure out it's quirks and let it do it's weird thing it actually performs well.

Don’t be shy about using ECT mode to see if that helps some. Welcome to TW.

I have a 2017 and regearing when I get home this time. I pull a heavy trailer quite a bit though.

Welcome to TW neighbor! I'm in Wylie/Murphy.
Sadly, rarely using 6th and dropping to 4th with almost no head wind or an inch increase in elevation is normal... The gearing is too high in these trucks for "mileage". ECT helps around town but isnt a fix and doesnt do anything on the highway. OVTune helps to the point that I dont run ECT very often anymore. It helps some with the shifting on the highway but still isnt a complete solution if your truck gets too heavy from mods. A regear is the only real fix but gearing will depend on what your using your truck for and if you mod it making it heavy.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
For your info: 2 or 3 yrs. ago I was asking my svc. mgr. (local dealer ) why the truck was always shifting? he said it is toyota's goal to get the truck in the highest gear
possible as quick as they can. Of course this was "designed/programmed" in for EPA requirements. Of course since then toyota has had several mods and service notices
to try to remedy this built in set-up.
After 3 1/2 years I have learned to live with it. When I am asked about the truck -- I say the truck has a great engine and a also a great Tranny -- the "marriage of the two -- not so good" -- due to the "pre-nuptial conditions put in BY TOYOTA !
Enjoy your truck -- I am happy with mine!
