I’ll start by saying I didn’t read everyone else’s post. They likely gave good advice.

My experience is, I don’t enjoy anything over 4K myself. But I’m also on the foothills of the Smoky Mountains.

IMO, these trucks are not really built to pull 6k often or far.

However, I have also installed a 2nd Trans cooler to ensure overtaxing my temps.

Would i have an issue towing my old truck from the mechanic shop an hour away on a dolly using my taco? I would like to avoid borrowing an f350 with a car trailer again.

factor in the weight of that truck plus the car dolly. Also make sure you follow best practices for disabling the driveline on the truck being towed so you don't run into issues there. And as this thread has mentioned, keep it under 60 and you'll be fine.

Who are you who are so wise in the ways of science?

5,500lbs loaded. Probably about 8,000-10,000 miles behind my truck.

You have to load the trailer properly and set the truck up to tow (WD hitch, brake controller, and if you have an automatic you'll want an aux transmission cooler and some way to monitor transmission temps). Airbags are for payload and do nothing the shift the weight off the rear axle so don't wast your money on them I towed for two summers on the factory leaf pack and the truck sat level when the WD hitch was set.

2016 Subaru Forester limited 3500 lbs.+ on a U-haul Auto transport 2000lbs. = 5500 lbs. + . Around 800 miles. Back story is my mother in-law passed away a week ago in CT. Had to get my wife up there to funeral and settle the estate. She is going to be there for about a month.
Picture is here as proof. Need to upgrade rear suspension .

Looks like you're on the bump stops. Did you try backing the vehicle into the trailer or positioning it differently to reduce tongue weight? You really need a WD hitch for that much weight.

Not much you can do with a U-Haul. Did not have any issues. But then again I do have a Class A CDL and am very used to pulling things this was an emergency tow.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
Most experts recommend a max trailer with dry weight about half of vehicle tow capacity. This allows for loading and a safety factor. So that puts you around 3500 lbs dry. I’ve towed my travel trailers approx 10,000 miles with my 19 Sport. About half pulling my T@b Boondock(2500-2700lbs) and about half pulling a Coachmen Nano 187(3300-3500lbs). Of course the T@b did great with 15-17mpg. The Nano got me down to 13-15mpg.
I would not go more than 3500-3700 lbs. The trucks not made for it. Get a Tundra.
We had a blowout on the trailer on I75 at about 65 mpg. Garbage, though brand new, Chinese trailer tires. Blowout took out the inner and outer trailer wheel well along with brake wiring. Stopping the rig with one tire and braking system on one side of a trailer from 65mph was interesting. The truck handled the “swerve” well but a big trailer might have caused different results.
Rent from rvshare or outdoorsy.com before buying.

Wanting to pull a 22ft 3500 double axle trailer with a SXS. I know the SXS weighs stock 1.945 but with up grades maybe 2300lbs. Your opinion o pulling with truck. 22ft trailer pulls empty great. Never have with SXS
