I've gone away from matching tires. I don't need nearly as much grip on the rear for my riding is I use a much less aggressive one on the rear. Most likely a different riding style than you so my opinions may not apply.

    Thunder Burt 29x2.1 rear
    Racing Ralph front 29x2.2 front

Thats a great price, hubs are worth that much. As far as your 2.8 question, you should be fine. Sidewalls won't be quite as supported but if your not doing park riding and just trail, you're good to go. I had a 2016 Stumpy 6Fattie and it came spec'd with i30 rims and 3.0 tires and never had any issues.

Yep, it comes down to tire profile. Some are rounder, some more square. If you run a more square profile, it will be fine. The more round it is, the harder it gets to get the bike over onto the side knobs, meaning you need more lean to get the same traction. Another factor is the traction channel (like the wide one on the DHF), which gets even wider and makes for a more vague feeling during transition. I also found that I needed to run a thicker casing to prevent sidewall roll when hitting turns and berms under high load.
I settled on 2.6" tires, which preserved a better profile and were lighter. They also gave me better grip.

I guess you can mix and match shimano/sram 12s stuff so I'm going to keep my XT shifter and try it out in place of the X01 shifter on my stumpy. double downshifts here i come.

Did a CX race with @ginseng27 this morning. Didnt come in last! Not too shabby for the only guy silly enough to run a 29+ bike.

I was also the only guy to tail whip over the finish line. Had to bring the steeze if I didnt have the speed!

    Any particular model of preference?

Put my coil fork up for sale. No complaints, just looking to shave some weight on the next bike. The DVO seems to be pretty light.

I'm running a Saphire 34 right now and couldn't be happier. I went with the 34 to keep the bike a tad lighter and suits my local trails just fine. I'm not a bike park guy so no need for a bigger fork. The adjustments are real nice, LSC, HSC and Rebound. The cool thing that sold me on it and actually works is the negative spring is a little coil spring not an air chamber and it has an adjustment OTT (off the top) that allows you to tune how much sensitivity you want initially with out messing with mid-stroke via air pressure. All their forks have this feature if ya want more of an enduro fork. Check out the web site.

Are any of you guys running a 1x setup on a road/gravel bike? If so, how many miles are you getting on a chain?

I’ve recently had the same revelation, I’ve always thought fat bikes were kinda silly, rented one at Kingdom and meh...
Bought one used a couple months ago and I’ve really been enjoying it. To keep up with my crew, you’ve really gotta be on the gas but it’s really improved my skills and shows me how complacent I’ve become on full squish bikes. The prices seem pretty good for used fatties around the northeast as people buy them and then give up. Give it a shot!

Ha! Gottcha beat, I ran the fat bike in one last month. Turns out they are kinda fun, but not fun enough to get a dedicated bike for (IMO).

Appreciate the input. I like the specialized tires that came on the Fuse stock. They've been pretty great so far on the trails I've been riding. Today heading up to SkyPark with a group of friends. It'll be my first time at a "bike park" in 8 years or so, and a first time on a hardtail. (I used to ride a Nomad + Push Link + Coil shock). Should be interesting.

Yesterday was a road ride day with some of the same mtb guys. Fun times, did the Palos Verdes Donut Loop + extra credit. Pretty fun hitting the descents at 40+mph on skinny road tires.

NICE. I had more fun just riding the course than the actual race. I happened to have a gravel bike so I just stuck some CX tires on it and rode that thing around. The tires did surprisingly well on the dirt and grass. That said, we did see someone on an evil Chamois Hagar. Good for him on such a slack machine. haha.

Anybody know a good option for a HCRB with swing out tire carrier/ option to run hitch bike rack? I want more clearance but need to carry a bunch of bikes.
