Made a okayish shot on this old slick top on rare Texas public land. Had some brush in the way and made a shot little further back but exited lung liver. Shot her at dusk and ended up going back in early in the morning and walked by her 2-3 times that night, she went about 80 yards. CWD check station aged the teeth at 3.5, now it’s time to find the big slick 8 picket fence buck.

Alright so I tried a new tree climbing method this morning called drt.. not sure if any have tried this. But essentially I’m throwing a weight into a tree attached to a utility line, then pulling my rope through with that. Then climbing the top using a knot.
    How this morning actually went.
Got there early but took too long to get out to the field. Scared two deer off. Tried to set up anyway with a pounding headache from my decisions the night before. Got the throw weight stuck in the tree and threw a nalgene up on the other end to get it unstuck.. which I should say worked just as well if not better than the throw weight.

after getting the rope through, attaching me and my stuff. I climbed up the tree. It was now 9am which is too late for anything good to happen from how much noise I made. The hangover kicked in due to my strenuous workout of climbing the rope. So I went back down. Packed up. Threw up. And went home to sleep. Hope everyone else’s morning wasn’t that bad.

My abs are killing me. You have to either throw your body weight up and hold, or do a pull up and hold while your move the knot up the rope. It requires strength you don’t get from 4 hours of sleep and a hangover.

Let one fly this morning. First deer with a xbow/arrow in general. Same group of does that came yesterday I think and it was the same time. I thought she was 30 turns out she was just over 20 so I hit high and hit the spine/artery and got a piece of the first lung and drilled the second. Not ideal but she dropped right there and was dead in 30 seconds or so.

broad head didn’t like the spine too much I guess

I have a rope etc. in my cart online for DRT and I have been going back and forth the past few days about it haha. I feel like I have to at least try it. What kind of rope did you get @Jake91

I had a buddy fly in yesterday that I only see a few times a year. He was only here for one night. Barometric pressure was 30.38 this morning and 25mph winds tomorrow.. so I had to drink with him. And I HAD to hunt. Lol. Either way, I’m back out here in a blind hoping they’ll come back in. This property is a bit of a highway for deer.. orchard on my right and farmland on my left.

    Congrats on the deer!
I have a climbing rope I used to use for actual climbing. So it’s a little long, but it’s a dynamic 70m rope. 9mm I think. But to be honest, if you can set up your pull lines before hand you will be much better off. Pick a few trees to leave a paracord attached over the limb you want. Would have made my morning about an hour and a half easier.
