I worked in dealer service department for years. People were always putting salesman in positions they could do little about....then get pissed when something didn't go their way. They don't have magic wands.

Tough way to make a living. Dealing with the public is a brutal business. Felt bad for most of them. This most of the reason I got out of the service industry.

But I thought it would be something useful since the topic is current and evolving. I felt misled by your selfishness and desire to make your own thread about the same thing that several others already have, so I couldn't help myself from expressing my frustrating through passive-aggressive sarcasm. That is the best kind of sarcasm, you know.

You are correct. However, when someone plops down [or borrows] 30-40K on a vehicle and they get dinked around by some service desk jockey that is a miserable human being when the problem is a manufacturer defect, they try to find a workaround.

And I have met some miserable excuses of human beings masquerading as service writers in my days on this earth. I've done the ''no, I'm not getting the $1500 worth of BS scam work done on my vehicle you say needs done [most of which was done over the winter by me], I'm here for the recall by the manufacturer.'' ''Oh, it's not available now, here, let me call the manufacturer, I have the number right here as I've already verified it's here by them as you've tried this game with me before.'' [in that case, it was a fuel rail recall on a Turbo Z, for some reason he was MUCH nicer on the rim replacement and fuel pump recall for the Xterra]

I consider most service writers as obstacles to getting to a mechanic, not a help or boon.I understand why they exist but that doesn't mean I have to like dealing with them.

And yes, Toyota wanted me to drive 80 miles round trip so they could verify the VIN on my 2015 Taco for the frame coating recall. The stupid part, the dealership is owned by the same guy that owns the dealership I bought it from so they have all the records. Told them to piss off, I can give them the VIN over the phone perfectly well and set up the appointment. I think service writers are mostly just mechanics that couldn't hack doing the actual work but were good at BS customers over the lousy work they did.

I don't understand this thread. I bought my 2019 used. I called a dealer (I had 3 to chose from near me) and they asked for my VIN OVER THE PHONE and I gave them the VIN. I'm sure they typed the VIN # into the same (or something similar) portal we use to check if there are any open recall. Dealer ordered part. They said they would call when part came in and they did a week later. Scheduled appt. Offered a loaner. (didn't need one) and 3 hours later I picked the truck up. Why in the world do they have to see the truck? Is there some way they can be defrauded? I'm really don't get it. I understand the OPs frustration but at that point I would need to talk to someone else and have them logically explain to me why I have to bring my truck in just to get a VIN#. What I do find frustrating is the lack of consistency from dealership to dealership on how to handle recalls. I believe how mine was handled was the best way. And if a dealership can stock some pumps to be proactive for that person that is coming in for other work than so be it.
A lot of the other comments in this thread well.......
Starting to see a "trend" in this forum.

Lame. It would seem a picture of your VIN emailed to the jerks would be sufficient.

If you bought the truck from them they already have your Vin on record. Call back and speak to a different advisor or ask for the manager. There’s no reason at to go in until they have the parts and a time scheduled for the repairs.

You've been here long enough to know if you post crap you get crap back.
Sometimes even if you post good stuff you get crap.
