I just test your theory and Homelink still opens the door.

How much did your truck cost? How much is all the stuff in your garage worth?

Why is the truck outside and the less valuable stuff inside?

I have insurance on my truck, and it’s a lot harder for someone to take it then items in my garage. I have well over 10 thousand dollars in tools and 3 motorcycles in my garage that would be hard to recover if stolen. Plus my house was built in the 50’s so my truck barely fits and it’s impractical.

Ditto. One of my two air-cooled VW’s, four Motorcycles and two ATV’s live in my two-car garage. All are custom and would be nearly impossible to replace. My Taco lives on the street. If it gets stolen I can replace it in an afternoon.

Geez just get an umbrella policy and be done with it. No worries, it's just stuff and can be replaced. Humans can't, stuff can.

Umbrella policy depending on what state you live in. Unless the motorcycles are over insured.

A fire is much more likely than someone stealing all three motorcycles, allot of tools etc. Unless someone threatens Nicolas Cage's brother.

That being said, I see your point.

    Confirmed.

    1. I rolled down window, had someone lock vehicle from a distance, reached inside and activated the homelink.

    2. I sat inside, had someone lock vehicle from a distance and activated homelink.

Have to agree with OP, this was implemented in a way that is not ideal.

Looking at the schematic, it does not look like it is disabled when alarm is set.

    This might work though:
    1. Disconnect battery
    2. Remove pin 10 from the 12-pin connector to the rearview mirror (should be light blue in color).
      • Pin 10 is fed from ECU-B 10A fuse (battery)
    3. Insulate removed wire and tuck it away somewhere not visible.
Now, I don't know if it would still function, so this is an alternative if mirror no longer works after removal of pin 10 when engine is running:
    1. Ensure all previous steps have been accomplished
    2. Ensure vehicle is turned off
    3. Add a wire to the now void pin 10 slot and splice to pin 6 (should be beige(I think) in color)
      • Pin 6 is fed from ECU-IG 7.5A fuse (ignition)
Another thing to consider, though, if disconnected from a power source for an extended period of time, it may cause the mirror to lose memory or need to recalibrate compass again. I'm assuming worse case scenario of course. I don't know how the memory or compass calibration is retained.

How does this differ for those who have no Homelink and use a garage remote, usually, clipped to the visor or in the center console? Disable the mirror via the power cable in the rear. If people want onto your property they will achieve it.

The homelink will still work 1-2 minutes after you turned off your engine. After that, it will go to sleep mode. This also apply to power windows.

I have unlocked my truck in the morning, pressed the homelink button to shut the garage door, then started the truck. This is after the truck has sat for hours. Power windows don't do that. I'm pretty certain there is a constant power source to the mirror.

@Squirrel13 OP, this is a very simple solution. Get in touch with Rob. He specializes on homelink mirrors and he sells a plug and play harness that will only works if the truck is on.
I bought the same harness from him a couple moth ago and I am very happy with it.

    Thanks again Rob! @RJP869

I don't have a Tacoma, but lots of mirrors!
Just thought I'd chime in on the subject of Homelink being operable at all times versus only with the ignition on. I've been dealing in mirrors for over 20 years, even before Homelink was an option on mirrors. Even before then, when vehicles had HL in the overhead console or on the sun visor, it was, and still is, common practice to have it so that HL is operable at all times. Only a few carmakers have Homelink be operable when the ignition is on, such as Subaru vehicles, but the majority still make it operable whether or not the ignition is on. And yes...we do have harnesses available for many of the Homelink mirrors that make it so that HL will only work with the ignition on instead of always...we've gotten a decent amount of requests over the years for them, so we are able to make them up for a variety of mirrors.

Maybe for some, but most of my stuff has been customized or built by me. Sentimental value is off the charts. Plus one of the MC’s was my late Uncles, another is a grey market bike which shouldn’t be in this country. Insurance? Got it, even my ATV’s have coverage. My garage had it’s own alarm and camera system before my house did LOL! My Taco does get to visit though if I’m doing work on it.

Another option I do every night - using "LOCK" button on my garage door opener control unit. It's cancels temporarily all radio transmitting sources,
    including HomeLink.

Brother, this worked exactly as you described in my 2020 TRD Sport! THANK YOU!

Just so everyone knows the tapping of pin 10 to pin 6 is necessary as it activates the garage opener. Without it only the auto dimming works. I tested it all this morning. To remove pins you need to use a tiny flat head to remove the bottom middle section of the connector where you'll see 2 tiny holes to lift out a lock. Then you need to insert a the flat head into the front of the plug and lift tab while pulling the wire out. Pain in the ass, but it works! If you insert the wire to tap pin 10 to pin 6 as far as the lock then the wire won't fall out and isn't easily pulled out. Confirmed it hasn't lost memory yet either. I don't think it will, honestly.

No more worries about thieves gaining access to the garage!
