I think it’s definitely valid. And really on the end user to do their own research and not just trust one source.

I swapped my truck to 4WD. It’s 99% bolt on and very simple... for 1995-2002 trucks. However since you have a 2003 it throws a wrench into the works. V6 Auto Transmissions use Toyota’s ETCS-I electronic throttle system. You lack the manual kickdown cable to the throttle body.

You have a few options. You can find a 2003-2004 A340F (a smidge rare), you can swap the output shaft on your A340E (extremely labor intensive and difficult) or you can swap your valve body. I’ve seen a valve body swap done once, and I do think it’s a smidge simpler than the output shaft swap.

I recommend a J-Shift transfer case and manual hubs over an ADD setup.

    Easier to swap

But don’t listen to my opinion, just wait for him to restate it

Ease. Manual Hubs and J-Shift has zero electrical or vacuum systems. It’s purely mechanical.

ADD + Pushbutton case requires new wiring, vacuum switching valves, vacuum lines, relays, etc.

and yet, manual hubs are weaker. More of a pain to use. and over all not worth it.

They’re kinda impossible to find used with the steering knuckles. ADD is common as dirt

I wouldn't take manual hubs even if it was free and I didn't have to do the work.

You should be more like this guy \/

The vacuum and all makes sense the j shift I had, had electrical plugs going to it. What's the deal with that

Depends on what year ADD setup you go with. 1995-2000 used vacuum switching valves to actuate the shift fork in the jack shaft. 2001-2004 used an electronic motor sans vacuum system to actuate the the shift fork.

All j-shifts and push button cases alike will have some Electrical going to it. However they are just for sensors that feed into the 4WD computer. Basically just lights up the light on the dash and prevents you from using your rear diff locker unless in 4LO.

You don’t need those sensors unless you want to light something up on the dash. I made custom dash lights to tell me if I was in 4HI or 4LO.

valve body swap is a massively simpler swap than swapping the output shaft...

ADD isnt terribly hard to wire up.. and theres a company floating around that makes an relay setup to make it just work..

still need to find something to make new doors out of, replace the front panel, and get some clamps to hold it down.
