Need new tires, thinking Yokohama Geolander MT’s, anyone got reviews for snow/rain and ice?

I’m basically between a Falken Wildpeak AT3, Nitto Terra Grappler and BFG KO2s.

but I love the look of the Yoko’s so I’m considering giving up some on road functionality depending on how poor they perform in inclement weather.

anyone able to help?

 

All are good. My vote is falken, mine are awesome. And pretty cheap.

 

I think they’re all pretty reputable tires I’ve heard mixed review from kO2s in ice and rain but could be because it’s more of a popular tire. I would get whatever is the best price point. Or the ones you like the look of. Anything of them are better than the stock Goodyear’s.

 

M/T's on ice are garbage. I'd never run them in the winter personally. The little squigly lines on the tires and the compound make for a good ice tire, M/T's have none of that

 

I had Geolanders on my Wrangler and loved them. Performed great in NW winters and I got an easy 60,000 mi., rotating every 6,000.
Hmmm, come to think of it, not sure why I’m not rocking those now .

 

I’ve always had 2 sets. KO2‘s and Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3’s for winter.
The KO2’s worked great for me right up to -20c then I’d switch to the winters. I found that when there was a good dump of snow and I’d have to drive around the city, I would air down to 28-30lbs.

 

The Yokohama thread seemed to kinda debunk that which is why I asked the question. A lot of guys said they worked well in ice and snow

But obviously knowing this, I probably am better off with an AT

 

I just bought a set of (4) snows last Fall (2019). Don't remember the details - have to check the tires. Bottom line - they've proved to be great - fantastic traction & minimal road noise.

 

Where are you located? If you’re planning to drive a bunch in snow, ice and rain then I’d prob go with an AT like others have said.


I’m running geolander MT for about 6-7k miles now and I like them a lot. I’m in western Washington but it hasn’t yet got to the real rainy season so I can’t give a full review just yet. I have driven through a torrential rain storm going high way speeds and had no issues and had good grip. But again small sample size. Same with ice/snow, went out and took them out in ice/snow last weekend and had no issues with traction but same thing small sample size.

I just got a set of the wildpeaks and so far they are great. I like them so far quite a bit better than the KO (never had the KO2).

 

MT’s suck in any winter condition minus deep powder. Thick tread blocks with little siping.

Falken AT3W, Kenda Klever RT, Toyo Open Country, etc. are much better options.

 

LoL might as well drive with a wooden stake against your heart.

 

Geolanders are great off-road and in mud. I don’t know how they would be in snow. Mine are 255/85/16

I have been running a set of geolandar mt in 255/85r16. I’m in Colorado, snow, ice, highway to Moab a lot. I love them

 

I've had Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2s for the last 3 sets, they perform great on snowy highways. Drop the pressure down around 24-26 psi . In deeper (offroad) snow they do ok with the pressure down around 18-20. But they definately don't have the bigger tread blocks like a M/T

I'll get the new design Revo 3 when these wear out

Be realistic about your driving. Are you mostly on highway snow/ice or deeper logging road snow/ice?

For me, driving to go skiing in the winter, the drive is still 80% wet highway. It usually only gets snowy for the last 20-30 mins before reaching the pass.

 

Had my Geolandar MT’s for over a year and a half (~35k miles) and been in snow, ice, rain and mud with no issues. I think any tire on ice won’t do as great unless they are strictly snow, winter tires like the Blizzaks. I love the MT’s but I definitely want to try their X-AT’s next.
