Have a “band” of something across the hood about 10 inches from the top of the hood. It’s about 1/2 inch wide. Looks like it was an adhesive and is in a straight line across the hood. Do they put something on it while in transit to protect the hood and this is the residue from that? Taking it in the morning to dealer per the salesman’s directive. It’s also got scratches along it like someone tried to rub it off.

Sounds like paint protection film. Its designed to protect the hood from rock chips, but you keep it on there and its usually installed after shipping at the dealer.

Take a picture if you can and when there's ample lighting.

I'll dig around my pictures of the current Tacomas on the ship and see if I can find anything. I want to say that they are shipped with a white plastic film over the hood. I've never messed with one to see how they're attached, but from what I recall it looks like the entire film is adhesive, not just a a strip.

    Edit to add:
One of the guys on board just sent me this picture. I'm pretty sure this is how the trucks leave the factory (there's more protective stuff elsewhere on the body). The brighter white spots are where the film may not have adhered all the way to the body.

Won’t be able to tonight and headed there in the morning. Wanted some ammo in my gun so they can’t say I did it (which the salesman knows it was there since he tried to get it off and told me he did). It only shows in the bright sun and I took possession of it in a shaded area at the dealership. I feel like they will take care of it including the scratches.

“It’s just a scratch, buff it out QUICK, the customer is coming to pick it up!!” What they don’t know won’t hurt them

100% good truck and was probably bought with out the customer ever knowing that happened.

The dealer sent me to a shop they use. The guy had no idea how the long mark got on the hood. Sales manager told me they don’t put protection on a Tacoma hood during transit. Anyway the detail guy got it out and looks good. I’m happy.

my 2020 had two distinct lines on the hood, assuming from the shipping film, they Came right off after a quick wash. They do show back up though after driving on dusty roads, I have a feeling after I wax it they will go away all together.

My sales manager harshly said Toyota did not ship Tacoma’s with that protection film. Said he’d been there 20 years and had never seen it. He then said he wasn’t trying to argue. Tried to stick me with it but I said they needed to fix it.

Sounds like someone tried to wipe adhesive off with something too abrasive. Run your fingernail over it and if your nail doesn't catch then it should polish!

Toyota buffed mine off after I brought it to their attention. No evidence now of it ever being there.
