Was telling him that last night. He could take everything bolt on off, find someone with red stock front and rear bumpers and headlights, find someone selling cheap highway tires, and replace everything, and trade the truck in for 4WD.

I'd even help with the swap.

Is a 4wd swap really that hard on a 2nd gen? It's really straightforward on a first gen

I do get a bit excited when I see a 1st gen Taco or 2nd gen 4runner SAS... I'll vote for SAS on the Dexmobile in the morning. A nice D44 looks good under everything.

 

I would want to use the manual fj tcase to avoid the computer. Spindles are not necessary just the hubs. The only other parts are a new transmission, a new transmission crossmember or chopping and fabricating with the old one, and possible relocation of the carrier bearing mounts. I could also go with a solid rear driveshaft. I have researched and think I am pretty familiar with what I need and what to do, but it would be cool if someone we knew has done it successfully.

 

I know, but I already have so much shit in this truck I think it would actually be more work to take everything off and find space to store it all until I can get a trade in. That would also require finding stock red front bumper and 5 stock tires/wheels. Plus it would be cool to push my own mechanical skills a little, and it would be a very unique truck. Didnt someone do the opposite of a 4x4 swap on here?
