This weekend my son decided to slam the passenger rear door, and now I have a clunk when shutting the door. The mechanism looks good and functions are normal but it just doesn’t sound like the other doors. Any ideas? Haven’t removed the door panel yet, after watching a video I doubt I’ll even be able to see anything

Is the window down when you closed the door?

hmm, there were some reports of the window being loose inside the doors and you could hear it rattle when the windows are down and you close it. but since yours were closed, I would go to the dealer if warranty is still available.

Seat belt can get twisted and rattle against the plastic. Could be that

My bet is the door catch is hitting.
Little silver piece "U" that goes into the door for the lock on the rear pillar door jam is off or the entire door shifted.

Interested in this thread, I don't have a specific event that caused it but my rear passenger door sounds weird compared to closing the others.

It’s a sound that I can’t explain. The rest of the doors have a thud when closing. This one has a totally different sound. He didn’t even slam it like one would think

It’s definitely coming from the door side catch. If you take the door and shake it the catch rattles

My 2015 Outback does this and I’ll bet it’s the same thing. There is some foam insulation inside the door that amounts to blobs of foam that run along the area between the door skin and the horizontal bar inside. The foam is likely not making contact with the bar and it sounds different..... more of a hollow sound instead of a satisfying closing sound.

My buddy has the same model and one of his doors did that too. He’s the one who did the repair after I found the problem online. For him it was a 20 mon fix that entailed running some silicone caulk down the seam to connect the foam again. I still need to do this.
Hope this applies to you, seems like what you have here....
