Still learning all about my Tacoma and so far having a lot of fun. For my 2013 TRD Sport (supposedly with tow package) can anybody help me identify the two hoses that just stop in the middle of the picture above (circled in yellow)?

seems weird that these hoses don’t connect to anything...

    Hoping this isn’t bad news...

Front diff breather is one; the other is a breather for the tranny or transfer case; i forget which.

Wow thanks for the fast responses! I’ll now have to learn what a breather does, but I’m well on my way now!

No, those are both for the front diff - the actual diff and the ADD that’s why it’s 2.
Trans and Xfer case breathers terminate on top of the bell housing and are very hard to reach.

they aren’t exhausts for the diff lol, it’s for crossing water. This stuff gets hot driving around and rapidly cools if you submerge the diff in water. What happens then? Gasses/fluids in the diff contract creating vacuum so these breathers let air in so that water doesn’t get sucked in through seals instead

As you drive, the fluid in the diffs and transfer case change temp. As the temp of the fluids change, the fluids expand/contract. These breathers allow for that expansion and contraction. The intent on the breather is to place that air exchange at a high enough spot so water doesn’t get into the fluids (water crossings/puddles).

Stock rear axles have the breather on the top of the diff. Alot of people relocate that so they dont pull in water if it happens to be a crossing higher than the axle (as soon as the axle hits water, it will cool and the fluid contracts)

@Mace_turbo If you want to confirm that you have the tow package, look under the hood and see if you have this.
