2020 VSC Disbale Guidance

LT forum had a post showing the same disable method as was on the 2nd gen with a switch spliced into the green wire or varient, but looking to confirm for 2020 SR5.

Just looking for a little guidance, not discussion on the merits of VSC. In my world it gets you stuck in mud/snow and a little tire spin is needed to clean and chew.

 

I don’t own a 3rd Gen, but does this work?

 

Correct me if I'm wrong or if you are looking for a different feature but I believe you hold the VSC off button for like 3 seconds while stopped. That's what I do in my SR5

 

Wait now that I'm reading your post I'm wondering if it works like that in 4WD?

 

I couldn’t tell you friend.
My truck is too old for that stuff, I got ABS. And that’s it.
You get all the wheel spin you want, you’ll either get out, or get stuck.

 

The VSC button will not completely turn it off even if pushed for extended period and it will engage over a certain speed (30mph) I believe. A lot of time traveling you accelerated over 30mph and then would slow down for a mud hole or even try to hit a snow drift with speed. The VSC will be fully engaged then and you are stuck. Had a switch in my second gen that you tricked it off by computer thinking rear locker was engaged by grounding it. Current vehicle has air lockers instead of Elocker in rear so that isn’t an option.

Pretty sure nobody has figured out to completely disable it, just as the anytime locker on the other models hasn't been figured out. Too many computers onboard these damn things.

 

Temp measure is disconnect a wheel speed sensor for those days when not wanting VSC. The 2020 computer is a bit nanny’ish.

 

Spoke with dealer, they said no can’t do it. Spoke with Toyota and they said yes dealer can do it, then started a ticket on it. Next thing I know the dealer is calling me saying they have received 4 calls from Toyota today and want to know when we can make an appointment to disable whatever I want. Dealer warned me some lights will be on and I need to sign a waiver, but it is all coming off.

 

I have NOT messed with a 2020, so it's possible I am wrong.

However there is a 99.99% you will be disappointed.

Yes you can disable VSC by permanently disconnecting wires but you will have permanent codes, and I havent found any way to do it without loosing 4wd mode change.

(Experimented extensively as part of failed anytime lock experimentation)

 

They are going into tech stream to do it and I hope only the VSC light and tss light are on, not the center square showing the issue. What do you mean by losing 4WD mode change? You mean like in the pro with street vs trail right, not 4WD all together? I deliberately order the SR5 so I didn’t get the rear e-locker and could add an ARB.

 

Previous years, it CANNOT be disabled by any setting in Techstream, based on numerous people (me included) trying. (Except maybe some temporary diagnostic modes).

I mean, literally if truck detects a whole host of problems with the skid control ECU, or 4wd ECU, or the CANBUS between them, it will not change 4wd setting at all. If you are in 4lo, it stays in 4lo, if you are in 4hi, it stays.

So this sequence would work....
You are driving along in 2hi, with your VSC disabled, truck will not let you change to 4hi. So you turn your VSC disabler Off, shut off truck to clear fault, restart truck, change to 4hi, disable VSC again which locks out mode changes... and do it all again to get back to 2hi...

So that is definitely doable, not very enjoyable.

There could be a wire that will allow disable of vsc and keep 4wd happy... but I couldn't find it... and I tried pretty hard.

Maybe 2020 techstream can do it... I think there is ~no chance.

Wednesday is the appointment. Will be hard to tell as it goes back to the shop after that instead of the trails, but I will cycle the 4wd enroute and see what the story is.

 

Well. They shut everything off. Pulled ABS fuse 1&2 and did some tech stream work. Shifts into 4H and 4L same as always. Dash looks like a Christmas tree.

 

If I remember correctly, when you disable it by holding down the button for 5 sec, VSC will come on above 30 mph and re-disable itself below 30 mph, but TRAC remains disabled regardless of speed. Note VSC is for cornering. TRAC does the power-cut to limit wheelspin.

When I hoon around in deep snow, I'm usually in 4low and bouncing off the rev limiter. VSC is disabled by default in 4low.

 

You tested this? Results? Data?
