Hey everyone, I have an 09 DCLB TRD Sport 2wd with 17” wheels right now. I’m looking at purchasing a set of 2020 TRD OR wheels and tires, are there any pros or cons to dropping to a 16” wheel?

    Thanks In Advance

    Not really, but technically yes.
    I wouldn’t worry about it.
Buy the ones you like the best.

A con would be steering response.
The larger the sidewall the more tire you have to push to steer.

A pro would be, when aired down, you have more sidewall to go through before hitting the rim.

Consider the tire you are going to run. There are supply and cost difference between 16 and 17” tires.

There aren't as many tires available for 16" wheels anymore. As compared to 17" or 18" wheels of which there are quite a few more options.

That said, I run 16" wheels and have no plans to go bigger, I like the size and have no complaints.

Depending on your tire size and pressure, provided you keep the same diameter tire, steering response difference will be negligible.

If you get tires that are the same overall dia. you will never be able to tell the difference. 265/75/16 vs 265/70/17 both are 31.6" tall tires. Sidewall hgt. 7.8" vs 7.3". My opinion, nobody can tell the difference.

    That’s pretty much my thought.

I still have t figured out why some guys like huge rims and skinny sidewalls on lifted truck?
Unless they just like the look?

Well in theory, with the smaller sidewall you would get better handling. How that translates to practical application on a lifted truck I do not know, and I doubt that is what most guys running them are thinking about when they put big wheels on.

This...I've got 16s and no plan to switch as long as the tires I want are available at a decent price.
