So, update on my mom’s mower deck. I cancelled the order that’s been pending for months, and ordered one from a (slightly sketchy) Ariens website. Says it should be here Tuesday, and that’s not a day too late! Here’s the current situation. I’m going to stake a tarp down under where she parks it so the ground moisture doesn’t attack it again.
But for an 74 year old woman, I must say, she’s pretty capable to be mowing her 2 acres on her own.
I keep offering to mow it, but she is like me and insists that she knows her yard and that I’d hit things and not mow it correctly. :notsure:

Built in toe nail clipper area!

I've repaired some that have been bad but I'd have to pass on that one

I told my mom that I could just put a “NO STEP” sticker over it and run it some more!

Just in case you wondered how you cut a 23 CM diameter tube.

Is that a diamond blade or something else for cutting glass?

Yep its a diamond coated blade, I think they're usually used for cutting ceramic. Most of the tools and machines we use were intended for different purposes. That saw is the only one with a large enough range of adjustment to cut the biggest tubes we have.

That tube, is that something you can order to size and then make what you want with it or did you make that in house?

I notice the tube is on rollers, is that so you can rotate it against the diamond blade? I assume it would be risky to plunge cut something like that, if it binds I can imagine it’d be a costly disaster.

Also, I just noticed it’d be impossible to plunge cut it in full since the blade diameter is restrictive of it.

Powdercoater has the hitch burnt off, now he’ll sand blast it and paint it green or textured black next week

We've used the same technique with concrete form tubes. Just cant plunge a blade all the way so it's easier to hold it steady and rotate the tube

We order all of the tubing and rod we make everything out of, the factories that make the material are massive. They have furnaces the size of rooms, its and industry of its own.

Yep you got it, even if there were enough exposed blade the likelihood of binding and breaking is very high. Even with small tubes we usually spin it to get a good score on it before plunging through, then if it cracks its almost always in the cut zone anyway. Larger tubes are way more likely to crack because their own weight acts against them when they're close to breaking free

How long does it take to cut tube like that?

I cut it into rings 1.61" tall, 34 of them, and it took probably 2 hours total. Each one i cut has a rough edge so I take them to the lapper to get them flat and smooth again so I'm going back and forth between the saw and lapper the whole time.

Each cut took maybe 2 minutes or so, i go slow to minimize breaks and improve the cut edge.
