Congrats to everbody!! Been hitting it hard in PA and just cruised thru the last few pages. Looks like some nice buck are hitting the ground! Still waiting for things to bust loose where I'm at in PA. Buck dont seem to be chasing much. Of course this screwy warm weather doesn't help daytime movment. Keep at it guys!! And be safe!!

Looking for recommendations... I have hunted the same river island right near St Louis the past few years. Good deer but I always have to be on the lookout for something better. The river island has two halves one accessible by land (~800 acres) and the other (~500 acres) is separated on one side by a half-mile or more walk, steep 20' banks and about 200ft of water. The other side is on the big river with two boat ramps across the river from it, one 1000 ft and one 1500 ft from the land.

I am very tempted to check out the half of the island not accessible by land but I would be flat out scared to access it from the side with the steep banks because they go straight into deep water and look like they are about to erode into the river at any moment. It might be possible that there is a sand bar formed becasue the river is low now and a flood last year pushed the banks around a bunch (this could mean I could get down to the river with a kayak or something to check out the other side). I have talked to 10+ people hunting the area and I have never heard of someone accessing the isolated part from this side (or from the boat ramps on the other).

I want to scout out the isolated part of the island because I doubt many people if any hunt it, but if I am wrong and it is really pressured it isn't worth me either towing my bass boat up from Mississippi or coming up with some sketchy solution from what I have in st louis - which probably means a john boat with oarlocks and I could rig up a trolling motor on it pretty easily, but that is probably a bit sketch to take on the Missouri River.

I think my best bet is going to one of the boat ramps super early Saturday morning and hanging out/moving between the two ramps to see if anyone heads out to hunt, and maybe try to talk to them if so. I figure if I don't see anyone hunting in the middle of the rut on a weekend it probably doesn't get much pressure and t might be worth figuring out a real plan to access it.

Any thoughts or suggestions? it helps me to bounce ideas off of others and I still have a lot to learn about deer hunting. Thanks!

I'm taking 3 days off due to heat. Thought I was gonna pass out yesterday. Today was 81°, the next couple of days will be the same. I'll clock back in on the deer Wednesday morning; fresh, excited and ready to roll. I have not been anywhere near my favorite spot this year due to weather/wind...that changes Wednesday. That whole area depends 100% on acorns, I hope there's some in there.
Congrats to those that have scored and best of luck to the rest of us.

    Nice deer!
I hate to piss away days this time of year but I can't handle it. The few bucks I'm seeing aren't even acting interested, just feeding along. The temp is suppose to drop Wednesday, not alot, but enough to make it bearable. Good luck buddy!
