I've been looking for a specific Tacoma for a while now. I've read that some have ordered there truck. How did you start the process? how long did it take?

I've talked to dealership locally (So-Cal) and they seem to never get it approved?(Black TRD OF 4x4 ADV Tech/Premium short bed)

    Any advice?

    Thanks

Pick out another dealership and go talk with them. The order/allocation process took about 4 months for my truck but manual transmissions are on a weird build schedule.

I had done a lot of research for my 2020 tacoma before trying to locate a specific one i wanted looking at every dealer in new england and some within the east of the mississippi finding nothing nearby. Even went to 2 local dealers which only tried to sell me what they had on their lots. I got fed up, and called a large regional dealer in boston. They were able to place my order nearly exact what i specified, plus i wanted it to be texas built. Dealer was to their word getting my truck in a little over 2 months, plus adding the options i wanted.

Dealer usually do not "Special Order" - they tweak a truck that's in their allocation to better suit what you would like - if their timing is right and it's close to be made. They don't want to do this 'cuz they'd rather sell you what they can close on in a short time frame. I tried a different tact that worked for me. Being a 40+ year Toyota customer at my local dealership helped.
