i swapped wheels on my 2019 tacoma to a set from a 2020 tacoma...and I have kept the spare on the truck. I tried resetting the TPMS ...still get a low tire alert..all tires are good...is there a bad sensor...or is it something else

Are these the sensors that came with the truck or the swapped wheels? If they are from the swapped wheels they will have to reset at Toyota or if you have the tool you can do it yourself.

So you removed your sensors from your wheels and put them in the traded wheels? How many miles since the swap?

you have to go to a tire shop or dealer and have them read the sensors and put in the new tpms codes

You need the id's of the new sensors programmed into your tpms ecu. Otherwise, drive real close to the guy you traded wheels with and you can monitor his tire pressures and can monitor yours!

You guys missed it, he has the original sensors. They just need to be relearned to the vehicle, any local Tire Shop can do it.

Same thing happened to me when I got new tires installed on original wheels. Tire shop could see the sensors/pressures. But pressures where not displayed. Low pressure would light up when I aired down. I had to take it to dealership. They said that the sensors were stuck in judgement mode and could not communicate new sensor location. They said the tire installer probably put the sensors in different position than when I brought it in. The installers programmer couldn't change the positions. The dealerships used their laptop to relearn the tpms positions.

I can read this as meaning both things. That he didn't swap the sensors with the guy he traded with and kept them and that he didn't swap the sensors into the new wheels and tires, thus letting his originals go to the other guy. I dunno.

The under-dash Reset will not help you.

You need to use the Carista app, TechStream, or a dedicated tire tool to do two things:

-- Get the current registered Sensor IDs from the old tires. Write those down!

-- Get the new Sensor IDs on your current set. Either by dismounting the outer bead or scanning. Write those down! Program them into the ECU either with the Carista app, TechStream, or a dedicated tire tool. Position does not matter. Hit the under-dash reset button.

If you intend to swap back and forth, you will need to re-enter the Sensor IDs after each swap.

The button under the dash only tells the ECU what wheels are in what position. It can not do anything else without the correct OBDII TPMS tool.
The ECU only holds 4 TPMS.

    http://toyota.custhelp.com/app/answ...the system, first,blinks slowly 3 three times.
