It will at least keep its value far more than a domestic. You’re lucky you didn’t find this same problem in a domestic, you’d be seriously screwed.

    OP needs driving lessons.

My truck runs great from Tampa to the mountains of NC all the way up to New Jersey and back.

Dude, this is the first thing you said. So, that being said, life is too short to have such a negative experience tied around your neck. Get rid of the negative emotion and research how to get out of it as cheap as possible into something else that makes you happy. If regearing or some kind of tuning is out of the question then just consider what your hate is doing to you and escape it.

I'll trade you straight across, right now, for my 1970 VW bus. Seriously. It has a higher payload than your truck, you can fit full sized 4x8 sheets of plywood inside (and close the hatch) and it's original 40hp engine will really put "underpowered" into perspective :) The speedometer is slightly off, reads 90 if you're doing 60, so it feels fast. The speedo shouldn't be an issue though, there aren't any mountains if FL long enough to get it up to that speed. It'll hang at 55 all day long, so long as you can stay tucked in behind a semi-truck. It'll merge onto a freeway... eventually. Don't be afraid to use the shoulder. It's a panel, no windows behind the driver seat and the rear view mirror is roughly postage stamp sized, giving you a blind spot that is only slightly smaller than Texas. Plus, your femurs are your crumple zone! You'll need 'em, since the drum brakes all around (yes, even the back wheels) means that every stop has to be planned out in advance, with copious down shifting. Oh, and I don't recommend driving if the wind is above about 5mph unless you like the taste of adrenaline in your mouth.

    Seriously, straight across trade :)

On another note, I'm sorry that your truck bums you out so much. Hopefully you can figure out a solution that works for your situation.

Mines more like a cat, it purrs when started and jumps when I dangle toys in front of it.

I’ve had a few+ Tacoma’s, my current 2021 is awesome, it’s not as fast as my 2020 Camry TRD was, or as nimble, but I’m happy with it.

As we get older, the one thing that stands true...life is too short to be unhappy, make a change and try another route.

Don't do it, OP. Trade for my '71 instead. 1st year for front disc brakes. Seats 7. Doesn't run but what the heck, it's almost rust free. I'd gladly see a Taco parked in that spot.

Disc brakes are for soccer moms and my engine runs. Mostly. It doesn't like when you let up on the gas though, which isn't that big of a deal unless you try to stop. Plus I live on a hill that gives you at least a half mile worth of bump start attempts for those cold humid mornings. Oh, almost forgot, the radio doesn't work. After the third time I ripped the antenna off exploring a forest road I said eff it and didn't replace it. It does great on trails though. The track width is only slightly wider than a tricycle, all the weight is right over the drive wheels and I've got a decent set of 14" pizza cutters on it. Also fixed the hole in the passenger floorboard, mostly. An adult foot won't fit through, small children may have issues. Being in Florida would be great too since the heater doesn't really work. Actually, it works great, but it puts out about 50% hot carbon monoxide, 25% exhaust gas odor. The remaining 25% should be fit for human use. I'd recommend bringing a canary with you if you plan on needing heat. It's definitely a fun rig. Really makes you appreciate life whenever you get to your destination alive.
