Just checking in with some others that have the clear sheet installed on the hood, Mirrors and other areas. I wax my truck almost every 4 months yes I am very anal. The information I got that there is no problem waxing over the sheet. The problem I have with it is water stains. The rest of the truck that does not have this protection water stains come off with cleaner wax. For the life of me I cannot get the water stains off of the hood. I have tried all different products and compound no luck. I am going to the dealer Friday for oil change and fuel pump replacement. I will bring it up to them. Makes no sense to have a protectant shield that does not allow water stain removal.
    Thanks Folks just venting!!

I have removed dealer applied clear stuff from every used vehicle I've had that it was installed on. Never put it on new ones.

Dealers 'kits' that have door edges, door handle pockets, etc. After a couple of years they are just filthy under the edges and look horrid.

Protection factory applied usually is a lot less in area (like rocker panel in front of rear wheels) and seems to hold up much better. That part of my 04 Highlander still looks great.

I’m also at this point. What’s the best method? Heat gun? It looks like ass on super white.

I use an old hair dryer to soften it, a credit card or plastic razor to get the edge loose, then patience while heating and peeling. Mineral spirits to clean any residual glue.

I peeled all of the clear protection off my 2017 a few weeks ago. It took me an hour to get all of the clear off and cleaned up

I wrote a post about it in the detailing section

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/adhesive-residue-removal-fast-and-easy.691768/

I didn't use a hair dryer or razor blade or anything like that. Would've just slowed me down. Peeled everything up with my fingers, sprayed it down, and wiped it off. The hood i sprayed and wiped in sections.

Use the product I used in my post. I've removed decals off of vehicles, clear protection off of other vehicles and always used mineral spirits etc. Even when you use other products there is still a good amount of time and elbow grease involved. Not with the turtle wax adhesive remove, just spray, wait and wipe.

I saw the clear clear sheets installed on white cars at the Ford dealership I used to work at. After a few years they get a yellow tint to them. Maybe on darker cars it maybe OK but it looked like crap on the white ones I saw. Crud on the edges was noticeable as well.

Seems like a lot of people have problems with this, I only purchased it once, on a Honda S 2000. The car was silver, and it didn’t look too bad for the first year, but eventually became impossible to clean the edges, which was very annoying. No one I spoke with had an answer to the problem other than to remove it.

my sister and her hubby bought a new MX6 that had clear film on the hood and roof and it turned to shit. Cost her 700 to have the film and adhesive removed she said. And then of course buffing and rewaxing. Sounds super expensive, she prob got screwed.

I didn’t expect this but it rained all last night and this morning I started picking at the edges of the film in the door pockets and it came off virtually clean. Only left a dirty line at the edge of the film which wiped off with a wet microfiber. Huge improvement.

That's insane. I took off all of my clear protective film that had been sitting on my truck for 4 years nearly and had all of the adhesive removed in about an hour.

    They got SCREWED

Go check out a 2nd gen from 5-10 years ago. That film crap behind the wheels will look horrible.

Good info I was contemplating adding the protectant film to my 3rd gen. I’ll stick with good wax and live with any rock chips I encounter.

I spent Sunday morning for several hours peeling the protective cover off of the hood. Then the fun began getting all the remaining glue. Lots of hard work and elbow grease and then a good waxing looks great. No more of the water stains and as long as I keep up with the every four month waxing should be good.

It's basically a vynil wrap that's clear. The problems is that if you don't go to an edge it peels, yellows if it's cheap, or just gets dirt under. I'd recommend if you love the protection color matching or get a nother color you like and wrap the panels you want ptotected.
It's really not a hard diy, just buy enough for two wrappings of what you want because you may make a mistake the first time you do it. Plus vynil when it gets hot in the sun "heals" itself from scratches.

I have a bug shield on my hood which keeps the chips down to a minimum.
