You can change oil with no tools and less mess (at least on my 4.0 with a spin-on filter). Great when the drain plug is only accessible through the small opening in a skid plate

Lowly 2nd gen here. I have a fumoto on it and never had an issue. Thing is good to go.

Too much risk. Not enough flow when draining. Why bother? Afraid of a socket and wrench?

I have had them on every vehicle since my 2002 Honda S2000, put about 150k miles on that one. Since then I have put it on another S2000 and 7 other vehicles. 4 are off road vehicles, Jeep JKUR that went to Alaska and a GX470 that has been to the Arctic Ocean and Alaska, 02 Tacoma 4x4 and a 87 Toyota 4x4 pickup and all have been all over the San Juan mountains and most of New Mexico. I would guess over about 500k miles on all the vehicles. For my new Tacoma, I have one sitting in the box waiting on an oil change.

Yes, I think they are very safe.

Got tired of cleaning the oil off everything. Wrench/PLUG/hand/and drop the dumb thing in the pan.

And you ever were out a plug? i have. after they have been on and off 10 or 15 times they don't fit correctly.

I have 4 cars i have to keep going and im 57 so that shit gets old FAST..

PS have been using them from the late 80's

I’m squeamish and don’t like getting oil on my hands when I pull the plug. Now I pop in a hose and flip a lever.

The valve is fine. I've never had an issue with the plug. I bought a set of these vslves at one point for the tacoma and a lexus. Decided to resell them after seeing them in person. I wasn't excited about the inner diameter of the drain valve or the locking mechanism.

Yes it takes a little longer to drain but its not that bad.
And the plug on my ford started to round off after 5 changes and using a socket. soft plug i guess. was much faster back in the day of 3,000 mile oil changes.

Forgot to add.... i dont have to look for a wrench now.

    and im using this one.
it has a better design i think

Seems like it can fail and accidently drain your oil out while driving . Also there's nothing wrong with getting oil on your hands or on your tools

I'm not sure I would trust such a device on my $17k race engine and would take forever to drain 8 qts of oil

I’ve had a few of these over the years. Anyone who thinks there is a chance of it accidentally draining has never had one in hand. They save the hot oil from pouring down your arm when you are down to the last two threads undoing a old fashion plug. Also saves you the chance of you or the oil change kids cross threading a plug.

These things are fool proof and safe.

I have put my truck through the nastiest terrains. I have never hit the fumoto valve.

This. And with the 0W-20 oil, it seems to come out like a tidal wave at mach 12. My first oil change on the Tacoma- the oil came out with such velocity that it hit the pan and immediately splashed up and out of the pan. Fumoto valve, and a hose makes it so much easier and cleaner.

They work great, mine is covered by a skid for extra protection. I run one on my wife's GX as well.

Not new to tacomas but new to turd gen, super duper pressurized oil and non-screw on oil filters.. And dang straight to your velocity comment. New slab poured right around my first oil change. Everything setup, covered up etc...loosened the regular drain plug and that oil started spewing! All over my slab where it wasn't covered. Dang it. Fumoto installed and will not have the issues next time.

I was a lube jockey a long time ago, if I had my way I'd install one on every single car that the clearance would allow for. Fuck changing it any other way, in particular like others said of the hose pipe it comes out of with the plug.

It's not a race. If the oil takes a little longer to drain it really isn't that big of a deal. Grease your zerks, do the filter, grab a beer, etc.

While I'm on the subject, fuck the oil filter location on the K24.
