The first set of SCS wheels I purchased was through a Toyota Dealership because SCS was out ?

This time around, I gave up completely, but a used local set popped up. I won’t bother looking again. FN won’t respond to emails or texts, gave up there two times also.

I saw the release of the new design is supposed to be in January of 2021. Anyone have additional photos besides the teaser vid?

I bought mine through a Toyota dealership. They emailed me when they were in stock.

tried to get a set years ago and they always sold out within minutes so i went with a different brand. looks like they still haven't figured their production numbers out

Coming from the 4runner world, it is interesting that each platform appears to have their respective markets pretty dialed in and loyal! Yet, both run limited supply and have their ups and downs. In my opinion, @desmodue explains the dynamic of SCS inventory/availability pretty well!

SCS appears to be the Tacoma owner preference. Haven't purchased or watched SCS but sounds like they can sell full stock within a day?!
FN was (maybe still is?) the 4Runner forum preference. Availability seemed to be a bit healthier but I think the time between replenishment may be longer? So once they're OOS, you're waiting longer. (Disclosure: I personally am a FN fan)

I think both wheels are quality and just based on my simplistic outlook above, both have their pros and cons. It's a matter of finding what you like. I see wheels as a luxury item that are worth the wait/energy to get exactly what I want. There is plenty of stock on Ebay TRD Pro Reps, at a lower price, but having name brand recognition and forum involvement/support brings peace of mind to me and adds to my passion for the brand.

At risk of sounding even more ignorant, I believe both companies are basically a one man show! (Vin with SCS and Dustin with FN)
Consider the number of people running either brand and think that all of that is handled by one person! Sure, they could expand their business and hire more people, but that cost rolls onto the customer. Then these wheels move from ~$1000/set to $1500/set. Then the topic turns into venting about how they charge too much and "aren't what they used to be" or got too big for their customers. There is no perfect balance.

I can understand the frustration in not being able to get the wheels you want when you want them, but I have also experienced the excitement and anticipation of my order shipping!

Just my perspective and support piece for the small businesses focused exclusively on the Toyota/Tacoma platform we all enjoy so much.

    Cheers!

We now live in the age of Drop marketing, selling luxury items using.

    • artificial limited availability that creates an image of scarcity.
    • Time sensitive opportunities causing the product to sell out in minutes; Plays with with your sense of urgency.
    • You have to earn the product by waiting and constantly checking for availability. (anyone with money can buy luxury, this luxury is earned)
    • Creating a sense of community or tribe using forums like this one.
Tesla, Adidas, Burberry, a bunch of other fashion lines and make up companies use this type of marketing to make people scream take my money.

I also waited for the scs drops and realized it was the same digital marketing techniques used with other digital luxury goods and got turned off.

Its getting old. They never have stock of anything and when they do, its obvious they don't want/can't get their supplier to produce more. Moving on...

I'm shocked to hear that. I had a very positive experience buying from Vin 8 months ago. I bought blems and he went out of his way to send me pics and offered a satisfaction guarantee.

I got a set of blems and only noticed 1 thing on one wheel and it was not anything bad, just a needle head dot in the finish. Could only notice it being right up on it too.
