So my 2016 just threw a P0238 CEL code. My scanner says its for a knock sensor.

I believe the truck may have gone into some sort of limp mode. The transmission tops out in 4th gear and shifts extremely rough. Only way I can describe it is that it slams each gear as it up-shifts.

I get the "limp mode" and limiting to 4th gear but what is the purpose of changing the shifting characteristics to make the truck shift so roughly due to a faulty knock sensor? Any ideas?

Still under my extended warranty so hoping to have the dealer replace it.

I checked under the intake and didn't see any nests but you never know. Some of the neighbors have had pack rat problems in the past. 56,200 miles and I've done all the scheduled maintenance.

More curious what the purpose of the terrible shifting is?

‘ scheduled miantenance ‘ is simply air/oil filters & oil changes

a vehicle can have other issues that maintenance can overlook

resulting in symptons U are Now experiencing

there is NO ‘ purpose ‘ to terrible shifting

can be a result of several factors unknown............ actually not a product of limp mode

    knock sensor fixed

something wrong not yet discovered whatever that is will effect shifting until fixed

Well dealer says its rats... all kinds of poop under the intake. Thought long and hard but gonna have them replace the knock sensor harness. The labor ain't cheap but I don't have the time right now. Need to remove the intake manifold to get to the harness.

I do most of my own maintenance, only thing I've had a shop do up till now was my re-gear. I've averaged about 10k a year in the truck. Pretty much have just done the oil twice a year vs the 10k interval. Transmission is "sealed" but I topped it off after I put a mondo ATF cooler in. I've did my diffs and T case at 30k. I grease the aftermarket suspension here and there. Im pretty OCD and will actually get under the truck with a brush after wheeling lol. I even tried resetting the cel twice with my scanner hoping the recent rain was shorting something.

Im speculating its all computer programming to make truck drive like a turd so the owner will bring it to the dealer. I've had a knock sensor short in another vehicle due to broken wires and didn't notice anything but the CEL. That sensor was allot easier to replace as well...
