I can promise you the USDA butchers here would never have animals laying like that on the premises. At the very least though, you can be fairly sure of getting your beef or hog and not someone else's. A place that has deer like that, who knows what you are getting and how long it's been in the back of a truck and laying around before anyone got around to it. I prefer to do my own.

A near by meat market stopped taking in whole deer. They were doing 500 deer a season. Just too much trash and the worry of Chronic Wasting Disease. Now they just take trimmings.

What’s the going processing fee up there going for.
I have to agree but it takes a lot of work to process, I have never had someone say my venison is Gamey or had a odd taste knock on wood

Drop it off whole, pick it up vacuum sealed anywhere from $90-$110 depending on how much meat you get back.

we do most of ours ourselves but there is a great processor 20 min. from here.he fills up fast and will cut, grind how ever you want. one thing to watch is that you get the meat from Your Deer Only, with some of them it may be sketchy.ours tags it and they do one at a time:thumbsup:

Bw s256 turbo with 3 in glass pack dumped pre axle raptor liner bed and top rails and fenderflares and rocker panels. Hunter side steps. Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
Dang I think its around $1 lb or (product weight) here and they usually charge 15-20 to gut and the same to skin, but we always gut our deer first and unusually process most of ours, but I let someone with a little more practice cape mine out last year since I was getting it mounted, so it went to a processor.

That price is just for normal cuts and burger; summer sausage and the likes are quite a bit more of course

Here, I have two within 40 minutes.

One costs $85 for basic processing, deer needs to be field dressed, that's it

The other charges $95 and the deer needs to be skinned, dressed and quartered

Our deer here have to be dressed at least. Most processors appreciate if there's bag of ice in the cavity. Around $100-$130 depending on where you go. Extra for jerky, sausage, meatsticks, etc. There's a local who goes around doing mobile processing. Guess he's making a killing. Cut and wrap only. I cant bring myself to take my deer to a processor. I want MY meat back. Like someone else said, you never know how long someone has been driving around with that deer in the back of the pick up. Now an Elk on the other hand. I don't think I could process that sucker on my own lol.

Ours are always skinned, quartered and on ice. I will keep the backstraps, tenderloins, and the rear top round roasts and vacuum seal those. I take the rest for burger, cube steak and sausage.

Edit: I would do the grinding here if I had a grinder and stuffer

I do my own , my father in law gave me a big grinder and we do it our self but it is a lot of work, this was out of our pig this year, but I did work in a butcher shop in high school and learned a lot from them old guys, I look back now and am glad for the experience, I was not as happy as a teen grinding meat on sat mornings at 530 and prepping the shop. 9BDA3062-B0F0-41C7-8F17-96E94052CBF5.jpg

It can be learned very easy, I was spoiled in the shop all large machines and band saws, not at home hand saws and Grinder still has to be push fed, the one I learned on held 400lb and was self feeding was nice.
