Hi guys, I have a crappy spacer lift on my 2006 4x4 tacoma long bed with stock suspension. Its got a spacer on top of the coil in the front and blocks in the back. My truck is at 207,000 miles and could use some new shocks. I see that the Bilstein 5100s can get me the same amount of lift (3''). I am running a 265/75/16 tire. Can I buy a set of 5100s and get the same lift without the coil spacer or the blocks in the back? Also, do you guys recommend getting a whole shock/strut assembly on the front with new springs?
    Thanks,
    -Austin

shocks do not lift the rear of the truck, they are adjustable coils in the front to gain the height. you would either still need the blocks, airbags, or new leaf springs to gain lift in the rear

Thanks for the info man, do I need a larger coil spring to get any lift up front? Or can I just install the old springs with the adjusters set to a greater height?

Bump, as I have a similar question.
I'm looking to get Bilstein 5100s for all 4 corners.
My rear is currently lifted, so I need longer shocks anyway.
I'm not sure if I can use stock coils with the new Bilstein, or do I need some aftermarket ones. Would I need to get new coils for the rear shocks?

Your rear does not operate with a coil spring, just the fronts.

The spacer and block probably murdered you stock shocks by now after 207k. Anything will be an upgrade. The rest of the answer is not to a “quick 5100 question.”

You should talk to Marie at @HeadStrong Off-Road . They will let you know what coils to put on your 5100s and you can figure out what leaf pack you want to run for the rear as well.

Short answer is the 5100 on front with stock coils works and you get 0-2.5" lift.
Many posts on this and many say get new aftermarket coils while others like me used stock with no problems.
Rear cheap answer is keep the blocks and see if you are able to get the recall new rear springs but of course new aftermarket spring packs are best but will cost you.
All depends on how much you want to spend, how long you are going to keep it, and your off road use/abuse level.

If you want to stay cheap, just get the 5100's all around and keep the blocks in the back. The 5100 shocks are designed to work with moderately lifted trucks, so they extend further than stock. The front struts will work with factory coils and they are adjustable. The front struts can give you lift, but the rear shocks cannot.

Find a set of take off 3rd gen coils, leaf springs...

The coils alone will give you an inch with the shock at its lowest setting.

I went with a 3 leaf aal for the rear. That gave me an inch and a half without the bottom overload leaf. 2 inches if you install it.

I didn't want anything crazy that was going to cost money later with CV angles and whatnot so I am very happy with this setup.
