I've done that in a 2wd and it was sketchy as fuck. although the water wasn't as high but still past my door. Thankfully I was driving on paved streets so 2wd got me through it eventually.

    There was a 2WD Tacoma Off-Road in 2007?

Yes. Rear Wheel locking differential helps with off roading I guess.

I have a limited sleep diff and it's amazing what you can do with that. I can't imagine how much better a locking diff would be on a 2wd.

I’m in 4hi everyday for work and I haven’t had any issues in the past 2 years since I bought my Tacoma.

I had a 4x4 Cherokee for ten years, a 4x4 Tundra for 8 years and now a Tacoma. Zero 4x4 problems with any of them. It’s better to have it and not need it. My advice is to service the Transfer case and front/rear differential and required intervals. I’ve always done that. Good luck

I don’t know about 4Hi and 4Lo. I have no idea what you mean since I never owned a 4x4. I will learn about it once I have time to do more research.

Definitely YouTube it. So much great info on Tacomas. But invest in the 4x4. Had a 4x2 for years. Was too afraid to do anything with it because I didn’t want to get stuck. Love having the option.

LOL I've been stuck so many times in my 2wd. Haven't gotten stuck since getting rid of my high way tires but I mean shit even a 2wd can do a lot if you know what you're doing. That being said I'd much rather prefer a 4x4 so I can have a more capable truck.

I would like to add that i was on a trail this Sunday i cruised to the top of a mountain, on the way down i saw a truck with his tires spinning at this one spot where i had cruised through with zero issue. I’m assuming his truck only had 2WD. He ended up turning around. 4x4 Is def the way to go.

Do it ! There is absolutely no cooler looking truck. I even got a lemon 2018 paint job from factory (fighting Toyota Corp currently ) and I would do it all over again lol.

U have no choice. Any other new truck is out of the question in that price, and getting a used Tacoma is basically like buying a new taco at the prices asked.

Shooot. If I was billionaire car collector I’d only get gen 3s in every color and configuration possible.

Edit : no issues with 4x4. Use it once a month . Truck is abuse mercilessly off road.

I bought my 2019 TRD Off Road 4x4 in Jan of 2019...I have 80K miles on it so far - a LOT of that in 4x4...zero issues. My son has a 2002 TRD OR 4x4...no issues with that truck either - both trucks perform wonderfully. Good luck and be safe!

Define "overlanding". If you mean camping out of your truck in developed camp areas with road access, you don't need 4x4. But if you get a new Tacoma 4x4 remember that water intrusion into the very electronically dependant systems on which your truck's 4x4 system depends is not only pretty common, it's also expensive and not usually covered by waranties. If you want a serious truck, get a 1st gen Tacoma or a Land Cruiser. Roam around TW for a while and see what water has done to some people's systems and all the love and support they've gotten from Mr. T as a result.

The only real ADD issues that I have heard were from water getting in. I was a bit lazy when I did the last oil change. I wanted to pull it and check but didn't. Next time.

No, I don’t think it’s meant to be on pavement when it’s in 4x4.

Not really any weaker or stronger than competition. ADD is like anything else... abuse it and it will break and the opposite... never use it and it will become non functional. Gotta exercise it regularly.
