Jacking & Resting Rear end on Wheels/Tires Stacked under Spare

    I have seen photos of guys jacking up the rear end, removing & stacking up the two rear wheels, placing stacked under the spare and lowering the truck to rest on the stacked wheels (in order to changes leafs etc)..

    Does this put weight/pressure/force on bad places in the rear, or is this totally legit and a good way to suspend the rear in the air??

    (sorry couldn’t find a photo when I needed it, but you get the idea)

    the crossmember that holds the spare tire is not designed to carry the entire weight of the rear of the vehicle, so no. You should put jackstands at the frame rails just in front of the leaf spring perches. alternatively, a better way to do what you've described would be to use the tires and rest on the tow hitch since it would distribute the weight evenly between the frame rails and it's attached very securely and designed for significantly more force distribution than that crossmember.
