Hey guys so I've been doing some research on winches lately. and I was wondering what my options would be for wiring a winch? I'd like to get a rocker switch hooked up to the inside of the cab if possible. And also what did y'all go with on your winches? hows it wired up and how do you go about winching?

    Keep doing your research !!

One of the critical things is how and where do you plan to attach a winch to the truck this effects how all the rest is done.

What would you like to have your Rocker Switch in the Cab Control??

Wiring can be almost anyway you would like with Heavy enough conductors to carry the load to the positive or negative battery terminals also able to carry the high current of winching

An in-cab winch switch suggests (recommended /requires) a relay.

Mine's a little different. My Terra 45 winch and a 4"X4"X4" pvc weatherproof control box are mounted on a short piece of square steel tubing that fits the trailer hitch. The control box contains the solenoide, fuse, wireless control port, plus and minus battery studs mounted, one on each side. This allows me to connect it with jumper cables to the truck battery. It has approx. 200' of 3/16" steel cable on it for max distance, and has wireless control. I use it mainly to pull large tree sections uphill, out of my woods. I wouldn't use it to pull a truck out of mud.

I like to be at the winch, or close by when I'm operating it, so I can see it, hear it, keep the small diameter cable spooling properly, etc. I have synthetic, larger steel cables in several lengths, and pulleys so I can custom spool or double line, whatever is needed that day. I've had this setup for 10+ problem free years. The wireless control is a must for me.. it has approx. 200' range through the woods.

The truck battery is a standard 27F TrueStart from Toyota, easily lasts all day, then starts the truck when it knows it's quittin' time.

preferably I’d like to have my front bumper winch set up so I can operate inside my truck and outside as well. I’m not looking at doing anything serious as I only have a 2wd but it would be nice to not have to rely on someone pulling me out if I get stuck and there’s a winch point available. I also have a rocker switch bracket with one opening left that I’d like to put the winch switch in so I don’t have to see the wires behind it through the opening. I’m not buying my winch anytime soon because there’s a lot of stuff I need to research before I feel comfortable buying it and using it.

Mine is like this, I ran these warn ends on the front and rear of both my trucks so I use it front or rear, and keep it out of the wether when not needed.

That is the downfall of being alone do you really want to winch yourself through whatever your stuck in when your winch is attached permanent to the front . When it is possible to get out rearwards and seek another way around .

Quite different if your out trying to get stuck rather then one of those I had no idea the puddle was 3' deep kind of thing .

When I had a winch attached to the front I can`t recall ever using it to self extract ( Then my days of trying to get stuck were pretty much done) but to winch every one else out.
