    Hello,

Since purchasing a camper shell for my 2017 sr5 access cab, I have had much regret about not opting for the roof rack kit. I have weighed options for adding one and am having trouble finding a solution. Going back to the camper shell factory option is now $400-500...

In my search for a rail/ rack system I have come across a potential option that I would love to get some input on (I am also hoping to find someone with experience attempting this).

What I would like to do is mount a 5th gen 4Runner rack system on the shell however I am unsure about the roof angles becoming an issue. Has anyone done this? Could I get away with shimming the mounting points for a semi-flush fit?

*The rack will be used to carry two kayaks. I do not see myself using it for any other reason.

I have seen a a few of the used racks on offerup/ craigslist between 180-400 and feel it would look pretty sweet if it all worked out.

    Thanks,

    Aiden

Hey man I’m new to this page and I made an account just for this post. I’m getting a cap for my regular cab tomorrow and will be picking up 4Runner rail system from an 18 model. I’ll keep you posted and do some pictures of the build.

On my old Tacoma, I used the rack from an Isuzu Rodeo at the pick and pull, I think it was $12. I got hardware from the store and used silicone anywhere I thought water might be able to get through. I used large washers on the inside but in hindsight I should have made actual backing plates; never had any issues though. 40k miles without a leak or cracking before I sold the truck. Had anything from 3 kayaks to cargo up there and never doubted it.
