I'll co-sign on this post. Us older guys generally have a different mind set than what is typically the 'norm' for this site. Totally get it though, as most are younger here with different perspectives.
As a young guy, I spent a boat-load of money on vehicles, mods, race-cars, bikes, womenz, & other vises....the rest I wasted.:D

I just looked up Axle Wrap. To me, it would seem, that an engine would have to produce a lot of torque in order to do this kind of damage. Now I know the 4.0 produces a lot of torque down low but really? I don't think it would produce enough torque to cause this kind of damage. I tow a lot of heavy loads, often exceeding the maximum ratings and with tongue loads over 1000 lbs. Within these condition, while taking off aggressively trying to get into traffic, you would think then that I would cause axle wrap. Nope... the tires still break traction and the torque is then lost.:notsure:

At 205,000 I still have upgrade plans for my truck. Even if the engine blew a rod through the block tomorrow I would just engine swap the thing and keep going. $2,500 vs $30,00-40,00 for a new one. Love the second gens.

Keep it and I'd start by making sure the u-bolts holding the rear axle in place are tight.

What are you talking about? No one said there was damage. Axel wrap is common.

On Tacoma’s? Normally this happens on drag racers.

Ok I just watched a YouTube video on axle wrap in a Gen3. It was more than I expected. This now has me concerned about my rig and towing heavy loads. I apologize for high jacking this thread.

it’s almost always cheaper to maintain a used vehicle.

If you are reasonably confident in the Previous maintenance regime There isn’t a reason to think your truck won’t be perfectly DD reliable through 250k or 300k.

I am at 135k on my 2011 and I’m planning on running it another 10 years or till 250k before I consider making a change.

I bought my 05 Prerunner used with 130k on the odometer. It now just passed 309k. I've done very little work to it that I absolutely had to. Brakes and calipers, wheel bearings, tie rods, water pump. But I've put money in to save myself trouble later on. I love my taco and plan to put another 300k on it

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
My 01 had 300k when I decided to restore it. And I’m rocking a 2005 tundra with just about 200k that was a rollover... Toyota’s are just reliable. Even their worst cars I’d trust at high miles for the most part

I love the use of “co-sign”. Cool.

while I’m not super old, I do understand the superpower called “compounding interest”. :).

So sorry for your father’s recent passing. I lost my father tragically 5 years ago. Lost my friend, former co-worker, confidant, best man at my wedding...think of him every day. You and your family are in my thoughts.
