    Interesting design choice then.

My oil catch can actually shows oil that didn't have to go back in to get burned...after only 250 kilometers!...so they work and it's a cheap one ($32.99 CND Amazon.ca) too...made the same as some other ones at 3 times the price!...just spend $20 on 12' of 3/8 fuel hose from Princess Auto (kinda like Harbor Freight you guys have down in the States)

    This is very funny.

A "catch can" could be fashioned from an empty beer can or soda can with a couple of hoses. Y'all are spending $$ for a non-value added device.

Yes, its your choice. Although, I choose to spend $$ on items which support the family or add performance.

If y'all have loose $$ floatin' about, there are plenty of charities that could benefit from your deep pocket.

Sorry to hear about that. Mt. St Helens impacted many people.

Well, your $$ could be used for hookers...............least you'd get some fun from the spend. How much fun is a catch can????

A proper catch can that still maintains proper PCV operation has to be pressure sealed and have a method of condensing the oil vapor back to liquid (usually a brass screen).

yes you can put a can with a hose in it but your car and garage will smell like oil all the time. I know because my Opels both have unsealed “PCV” systems.

installed my jlt today - the provided bolt to hold it down was no way near the proper thread - M6 - dug through my loose stuff and found one. other than that it seemed to fit fine. Will know more after I give it a few miles to test along with a new/old VFTune just flashed.

Required or necessary? Probably not. Value added? Yes they actually are value added. Look at the pictures. A beer can won't work.

Oh, and loose $$ is relative - $100 to a USA business, to me that's a good thing. And I am pretty sure folks with those loose $$ already give to charities. :amen::rofl::D

Catch cans work. I had a toyota truck that failed smog at 250k miles. I had to change the CAT. At 325k I needed a another CAT. The smog guy told me with all of the blow by, I'd keep killing CATs. He thought it would be wise to add a catch can, so I did. Drove the truck to 590k and never failed smog again.

First month I had my Tacoma, I added a $30. catch can because a catch can will save your CATs. This alone is reason enough to use one.(IMO).

250k is a lot of miles. I’ve had cars fail smog long before that and had nothing to do with blow by. I’m not saying don’t get one if you want it’s certainly not going to hurt anything but I would be surprised if it made much of a difference overall. If my converter goes at 325k I probably won’t say to myself “if only I had installed a catch can”. I mean that’s a metric shit ton of miles stuff is gonna need replacement.

Mmmmmm idk about that one chief. A cat is built to burn off all the excess crud in the exhaust system, a catch can is designed to catch the condensation and blow-by from a PCV system. I've never seen a cat covered in blow-by, nor do I think I ever will see one fail from it. Most of the time a cat fails because of the heat it's been exposed to after time. In order for a cat to fail from blow-by (if that could even happen) is for the blow-by to make it's way all the way down the exhaust tubing and just chill out in the cat. But, again, I'm sure the cat would just burn it off next time you started the truck.

Well it's a known fact that oil blowby kills CATs. If you want to kill one fast, put some high zinc oil(1700~2200ppm)in your rig.

With a catch can, the zinc will never get to coat your CATs(unless you cook your rings), and they'll last as long as your engine.

Some of us enjoy putting over 500k mile on a rig. Not all of us buy new cars every few years. I drove my 85 for 19 years. Short of totalling my Tacoma, I'll drive it til I die.

    A thought to consider.

If you have enough blow-by to fail a Cat, then you probably have piston ring problem.

I don't understand why someone would go to the trouble to convince someone on the Internet they don't know and will never meet that they don't need one. Must have something to do with religion.

It's the same reason we tell people they don't need an aftermarket air intake, or they don't need an exhaust, or how putting premium fuel isn't all that beneficial. We're trying to help other members save money by not buying things that are useless or provide negligible improvements. After all that's what this forum is for right? I'm never meeting any of you in person, but I'm still going to reach out on here for help and vise versa because this is the best demographic to get feedback from.
