Since the bed is off Definitely replace the fuel pump.

Get just the DENSO OEM fuel pump they run around 100.00 with the pump filter.

My fuel pump crashed at 250,000 and replaced my 2nd pump at 600,000.

I would inspect the evap canister, hoses and make sure its working correctly as it is tied the the fuel tank for fumes.

Advance auto parts carries them plus a 20 percent discount

I'm in the minority in general because I consider fuel pumps a bit of a maintenance item on any vehicle. They're a total show stopper and generally very difficult to do roadside so if the opportunity presents itself I do them preventatively (but rarely any sooner than 150k mi, as a general rule not specific to Toyotas)

This spring I replaced the one in my SuperDuty because it's my tow rig and I can't have it go down when towing in the summer (turns out the panicdemic killed the summer plans anyway).

However I think a lot of people get into trouble installing whatever the local corporate parts house has in stock like AirTex or Precision. You're gambling there, so go OEM or leave well enough alone. This is actually another reason I replace preventatively - I've got time to source an OEM pump and install in the comfort of my shop.

Now if guys are finding the Taco pumps last a lot longer, then obviously it's up to the individual vehicle owner and their facilities, abilities, finances and comfortable risk. But if *I* had the bed off, I'd just do it while it was staring me in the face.

yes, a fuel pump going out in the middle of nowhere South Dakota when its well below freezing and windy would be real sucky sucky!
and 300 miles away from base adds another sucky

1st fuel pump went 250,000 and the dealership replaced it after it was towed for around 800.00 total.

Then 350,000 miles later I replaced that fuel pump because my fuel trims were bad and lean because of a weak fuel pump with this one shown for 100.00

Are you using the Denso fuel pump or a high flow fuel pump since you're supercharged?

I use the stock DENSO fuel pump,

The methonal injection covers the spread so that’s all that’s needed of you use the methonal system

Dunno why but this one never came up in my search. The only denso that shows up on advanced & autozone is 951-0001 for 170.00. The one you posted does have it as fitting an '01/6cyl.... Grrrr.... I'm going to have to order it though. Nothing in store local.

I just bought the Denso on Rockauto for $70, plus the 5% off TW discount. Also picked up the Bosch fuel pump strainer, Rockauto doesn't sell the Denso version.

    https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/toyota,2001,tacoma,3.4l+v6,1375343,fuel+&+air,fuel+pump,6256

I trust Amazon less than Rockauto for genuine parts, but it's also $70 there:

After further looking around, looks as though the 0103 has been discontinued.... replaced by the 0001. Driving myself nuts trying to find the 0103 nice, neat package, strainer & all.... 0001 it is.... onto the radiator whilst I await the pump arrival.

Probably going to need to replace this seal myself too - I've been smelling gas for a while and had a CEL. I reached up and hopped gasket maker around the sender unit seal and was able to get the CEL to stay off but still smelling gas.

Unfortunately my bed bolts are totally rusted on, so I guess my best bet is to drop the tank. Bolts rusted there too but think I can work around them. Any tips to disconnecting those plastic fuel line fittings? (2001)

Also - are the fuel sender unit bolts threaded into the tank or are there threaded studs? I'm concerned about snapping bolts replacing the sender gasket and having to get a whole new tank

How did you clean the mating surface before installing the fuel pump bracket gasket?

If your bed bolts are rusted then the bolts holding on the fuel tank are gonna be just as bad if not worse. The plastic fittings are actually really easy to remove, IIRC the little red piece lifts up partway and then the fitting just slides off. I found a video of it when I did mine but i can't find it now. To reinstall it just pushes back on and you'll hear it click. The bolts that hold the sender unit on are threaded into the tank. I soaked with PBblaster and worked them very slowly and carefully with a palm sized ratchet. They weren't rusted much at all but the deteriorated gasket gummed up the threads a bit and made it harder to remove.

Emery cloth, work your way around the opening a little at at time and hold and dampened rag underneath where you're working to keep dust and metal from falling into the tank.

Hey I recognize that crusty gasket surface!

This was my old tank, and that surface was corroded beyond sealing. It would just seep fuel when the tank was full, or sloshing around. Replaced with a scrapyard donor and scraped it clean with a razor and some brake cleaner.
