If you’re looking for a crystal clear finish, you’ll want to wet sand all the way up to 2000 grit without skipping grits. Then compound (I use Wizards Turbo Cut) followed by polish (I use 3M perfect it). Keep a good coat of wax on it.

I polished these originals a while back. The cracks lead me to just throw in the towel for some new CAPA's @RockAuto this time around. Less than $150 to my door.
Pattern fine, adjustment is key. I've used CAPA certified housings in several vehicles, long term. No complaints.

When I did my son's the clear coat was rated for headlights. Check with your supplier for headlight clear coat (they are different from paint protection)

I wet sanded mine with 800, 1500 then 3000 because that’s what I had at home. Then used my buffer with McGuires 205. About 20 minutes per side total. Came out great. There is an excellent YouTube video on it.
