Welp, just when I was getting my truck to where I wanted it, the worst happened. While on a 3 day hunting trip this weekend, I lost all oil and got stranded with two other friends. My only guess is that a bush or something to that sort grabbed my Fumoto valve, broke the cover, and opened it up. I didn't notice the signs of low oil till it was too late, even the light didn't come on till it was too late. I got out of the truck when it started acting weird and looked under it, just to see oil dumping out of the valve. Immediately turned off the truck and began walking until me and my friends could SOS my dad that was at camp. We eventually got oil into it, but it developed a knock on the way home. Had to tow it for the last 70ish miles and the engine is done.

Currently just trying to find information on replacement of the 4.0 and my best options. Is there a difference form 2nd to 2.5gen? I literally just had my whole transmission out so I am not sure how motivation I am feeling on replacing the engine myself, plus I would like having a warranty? Are the bellhousings different from MT to AT? I live in Elko, Nevada, my closest options for engines are Salt Lake and Reno, although I am not finding many options there. Just welcoming any good opinions or information on replacing or having someone replace this motor.

ide look for anything 2011 and older, 2012 and up has a different manifold for the sai shit they added, so you would also need the pipes off that engine or block off the secondary holes.

Also ide avoid any 4.0 out of a 2005-2006

Didn't have aftermarket skids but the pan is tucked pretty far so I made the horrible assumption that nothing would touch it, and here I am. I am unsure if its even worth having a shop do. I have all the tools and my dad has a cherry picker but im just worried about the little stuff like fuel, coolant, and the whole engine harness. Not sure how much I could get for the motor right now if I sold it or who I would even sell it to. Best prices I've found so far is $2800 shipped for a 4.0 with 90K. Mine only has 115K on it.....

Thought i'd update this thread. Ordered a motor that had ''60k'' on it, got it sitting in the truck, then saw a vin tag (listing didn't include a vin # for some reason). Out of curiosity I ran it and the records showed that the motor has 140K on it. Called up the company I purchased it from and they claim it had a recent rebuild, but have yet to give me any proof yet. I personally think they are full of sh*t, but the motor is pretty clean so it may be possible. Anyways, I plan on replacing the starter motor bolts and the other bellhousing bolts since I am already this deep and was wondering if anyone could help with part numbers? I did some digging but toyota isn't too specific with their diagrams from what i've seen.

From what I've found, the larger 17mm bolts are part #- 9008011426
    14mm bolts- 90119-A0140 .

Just wondering if anyone can confirm these, would like to be positive.

I would have just rebuilt the motor you had.

There are better options than the Fumoto or Fumoto style. There are ways to get the engine running again, but it'll likely never be the same. A full rebuild may work though.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
I had a Fumoto on mine until I drove down a bushy logging road while hunting and thought to check after. It had been knocked loose and I could turn it with my fingers. Took it off at the next oil change.
