What about your standard black pro-comp steel wheels? They are pretty darn cheap and popular for offroad enthusiasts.

Not sure if 16s would clear the calipers on a them though

Yes we totally need a split rim tire with a giant plastic donut inside of it as a "run flat". I've never seen such a rim for the civilian market. I've also heard split rim tires are a PITA to balance properly but I dont know if thats true. We never balanced our rims on the hummer.

You could get some old Land Cruiser split rim wheels - they would work on a Tacoma. They're pretty narrow though. Dirt road technology was never envisioned to be used at 80mph on the interstate. Who needs to balance tires if you never break 60 mph?

Just for info, mine came with a 17in steelie and with a different tire than the other four.

Well I haven't measured mine - it looks like the standard 16" 16 hole but I guess it could possibly be 17"? So your truck came with 16" wheels and a 17" spare? Or did it ship with 17" wheels? An FJ steelie would make sense there as a cheaper spare alternative.

Yeah, Sports are 17s. I can't remember what folks say about the 18s on the Limiteds.

I do like the 16in steelies on the SRs and the 17in FJs also.

This reminds me that I need to root through my wife's and daughter's hatches stuffed with useless junk to check the pressure in their spares.
