We got the 20 Pro 4runner for my wife and she hates the exhaust sound. I would have been happier with the same exhaust we had in the 18 4runner pro.

The tone will go from bad when you bought it new to even worse after you realize you've bought an exhaust worth 5 extra hp for an engine that sounds like shit.

OEM stuff is always quiet. They have to be designed to stay under decibel limits. Aftermarket pipes do not have to follow this so they are much louder. Have you tried to stand outside and hear it rev? A good exhaust is one you don’t hear inside. You’d be surprised how much of a difference there is when you’re outside. I always thought my Maserati Ghibli was quiet even with the baffles open until someone revved it up when I was standing behind it. Video doesn’t do justice.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
The best way to evaluate how your truck's exhaust sounds is to have someone else drive it so YOU can hear what it sounds like to others while being outside of the cab. Try this and give it some time and you might begin to like it.

I don't think my '06 TRD OR with OEM performance exhaust got worse after 14 years and 126K miles. Even this OEM system kinda becomes a 'drone' after many miles on the freeway at 65+ mph. But at least I can still hear the radio and/or my passenger.

You think your stock muffler had more drone than the TRD? Trd is definitely louder than stock, its night and day. All aftermarket mufflers "break in" a bit over like 600-700 miles and sound a bit louder but nothing too crazy.

I dont know why so many guys say this v6 sounds like shit.

Trd, borla, corsa and gibson all sound great imho. Some magnaflow, flowmaster and especially MBRP are on the louder/raspier side.

I have the borla for almost a year and i still like listening to it while im driving, music to my ears haha.

I have been using the pro exhaust for over a year and I would not say louder but a little deeper. It's more of a refined exhaust sound that's rumbles a little more on cold starts but sounds way better over stock in all aspects. It's just cleaner sounding. But no I don't think mine has gotten any louder but is more balanced than stock.
