I bought the wife a new Rav 2 years ago. I normally do all my own oil changes, tire rotations, etc. That way I KNOW they're done right. But I let her take the car to the dealer for the two years of free maintenance.
She took it in today for the 30,000 mile service. This time the expense is on me. I had planned on doing it myself but have been so busy I just figured I'd let her handle it, for $250! I rationalized the expense with the fact I haven't spent a dime on the car yet and this service includes all the various filters, etc. Honestly, I've never done that before. I've ALWAYS got the book out and handled it myself.
Last night, as an after thought, I grabbed a sharpie and marked a couple of the wheels and you guessed it, they didn't do the tire rotation. NOW I'm wondering if the bastards have EVER rotated the tires.
Needless to say, I'm pissed. And now the wife is pissed off at ME because I'm pissed.
I'll be down there first thing in the morning when they open.
    Sometimes ya just can't win.

It's sad people don't have the time, motivation or knowledge to perform properly. Even with 2 years of free blah blah, do it yourself.

I would just change the oil yourself, rotate tires yourself and ask for a refund. Not worth the trouble of incompetence.

    Edit: GO GET EM

I have my local KwikKar guys do my oil. The shop I use is run by a great manager and they do not cut corners.

Tires are rotated at Discount Tire. They do all the wheel and tire work on the truck, suvs, and sports cars. They are pretty great.

Only way to ensure the work is done correctly is to do it yourself. After all, you have a direct interest in the car maintenance and it being done correctly. The dealer wants you to come back. Sad to see scumbag service departments, but the truth is they want you to come back when bigger things go wrong.

Go and raise hell! That's unacceptable!

Now I am pissed at you for taking your car to the dealer instead of crawling down and doing your own service.

I often wonder how many times dealers and mechanics have charged customers for services that were never done. I bet it happens a lot more often than most people realize....

Last two times Discount tires failed to rotate one side on a rotate and balance job. I always mark my wheels so I know as soon as I look at it. Made them fix it both times.

I had a similar experience with mine. $400+. Granted, I had them do the full service, including differential and transfer case fluid changes, but still. Not sure they rotated the tires either, but they certainly didn't adjust the pressures. Not a big deal though because I'll be getting new tires soon anyway.

The dealership incident, we've all had it, the ONE, the one that makes you say no more.

Don't get your panties in a wad, that last one was just a joke
