Anyone have any recommendations on who I should go to get a body mount chop on my rig? Hoping to go to someone good who has experience in cutting and trimming especially because I am installing -38 offset wheels.

If you're in the LA area, hit up @GHOST SHIP if you're in north LA or @Shmellmopwho if you're in south LA/near the coast.

I’ve done chops for -38 wheels before and depending on your lift and/or tire choice there going to be a lot of plastic that needs to be trimmed as well. Unfortunately Tacomas aren’t made for negative offset wheels unless you go full island style and lift it 6”.
I’m in north LA county. Let me know if I can help.

My set up is Bilstein 6112 and 5160s in the rear giving me a 2.5/2.75 in lift and I am going with ko2 285s. I do like the aggressive look with the neg 28 offset but wanted to get your opinion on the strain it may put on my truck if any.

Whatever you do, avoid doing a cab mount relocation. You’re gonna start seeing a lot of cracked frames from people running cab mount relocations.

edit: I should note that they can be done in a way that will keep the frame from cracking, but currently no one is doing them that way

Also do the largest cmc possible. Don’t cut it just to clear your current tire size, you’ll regret that. Make sure it’s cut enough that it’s flush with the firewall.

Do you have any pictures of this? I'm curious to see frames cracking.

I have pictures from two tacoma owners, that both had different shops do the install, but they aren’t my pictures to share, they were sent to me to see if could repair them. Both had good looking installs with failures in the haz on the frame rails. Besides not noticing the structural issue prior to install and addressing it, both installers did a good job of following the manufacturers instructions, but just didn’t realize the design flaw. I don’t do these installs for this reason. They can be done correctly with the right modifications, but you’d be looking at about double the install time

I don’t want you to think I don’t want to share them, I just don’t want the guys who sent them to think I’m talking shit about their trucks, especially since it isn’t their fault. If I would of agreed to do the repair work I’d share them, but I declined to do the repair, once these frames start cracking, especially from welding on them, it typically doesn’t stop.

Oh most definitely, I respect that. I'm just curious because I was highly considering doing a relocation kit when moving up to 35's.

I highly recommend SickNick’s fab in Stanton. Did my cmc for $120 and he supplied the plates and everything. He also had a dog to pet while I got it done

if you’re gonna do one. Use the kit from quarter tilt creations. It’s by far the best option available and does the best job of addressing the issues.
