It looks like you've already got some great advice here, I'll just add a few things:

    1) Like others have said, I would get an itemized out the door price agreed upon before traveling. If you leave negotiations for in person they will use it to their advantage, knowing you'd want to make the trip worth it and pay more.
    2) Have financing in order, pre-approval from TFS or your bank. If the rates are comparable then use your bank so you can take the incentive cash from toyota
    3) Get a trade value (if applicable) before hand, sometimes there are significant regional differences in the value of vehicles so better to know what you'd get in trade for that area
    4) Make sure to bring all necessary documents (pay stubs, title of trade in, etc.)

Good luck and hope it works out for ya!

OP looks like a decent deal for the current situation. I emailed Freeman out of curiosity and this the price they sent for a similar setup DCLB.

You get 10% on purchases? I agree with using CC for points but no one pays out 10%.

I've always been unpleasantly surprised by the wait even when paying cash they seem to drag it out like they were getting paid by the hour.

It depends on what airline you exchange with and the route for the valuation.

I purchased my 2020 at a dealership that was about 100 miles from home.
I looked at their inventory online, then drove out there to browse in person and get them to appraise my trade.
I then worked with the salesman using the phone/emails over the next few days to finalize negotiations.
I made an appointment to come back in, they had the truck detailed and ready. It took about an hour to finish the deal in the finance dept.

Is there a name for this? I'd like to read a bit more about it. Whatever I put in the search bar wasn't too useful

Amazing how much these trucks cost now. In another 5 years are we going to pay 70k for Tacomas?

I wouldn't doubt it. Imagine the price for full size by then. An F150 Lariat is already around $55k new and that's considered "mid-level."

There is little room for negotiation on new Tacomas right now as they are in short supply. The OR you are looking at is very loaded so not surprised at the $45K MSRP. $3K off is good as you will probably get now. Financing I would check your local bank just for comparison but will just be based on your credit and will likely only save a fraction of a percentage point at best.

OP has hopefully already made the purchase, but I’ll say a couple things.
Financing guy actually said ‘These new Toyotas aren’t like your old Prerunner’ when I rejected all the extended warranties!
Probably the single most important thing I’ve read on this thread. DON’T make them think you have no other option other than buying this truck! I didn’t like all the wasted time the salesman was spending ‘negotiating’ with his manager. Looked like bullsh...ing from where I was sitting so after 10 minutes I got up and started walking for the door. Funny how fast their conversation ended!

Really? Wow, I bought new just this Sept .. paid cash/check ... Had the email printed out with the final price on it with me (Just in case) and the longest part it took was me saying 'no' to all the extra warrenty BS they were trying to sell me ... Other than that, between the time I walked into the showroom and driving away was literally 50 minutes. It could have been shorter, but I made them remove the their stupid 'dealership decal' on the tailgate first. :D

Considering the price of used Tacomas, $70k for a new one isn’t far off.

Carmax gave me a quote of around $23,000 for my 10 year old prerunner a few months ago, and they probably would have flipped it for around $28,000 so......

Thanks for all your help everyone who posted here. I bought this truck this weekend at Freeman, and I can't recommend them enough.

The first price they gave me when I contacted them was their invoice price, with Toyota incentive of -$500 . That's what I paid. There was absolutely no nonsense whatsoever. For anyone in Northern California, it's worth the drive. SoCal even.

Freeman is the best NorCal Toyota dealer, hands down. Bought my pro there a little less than a year ago, no hassle, no games, no hard sell on the aftermarket alarm or other junk. Unfortunately still took up the better part of the afternoon, even though I was paying cash.
